2019 - Week 13 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the WGC - Dell Technologies Matchplay (European/US PGA Tour), the Hero Indian Open (European PGA Tour) and the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. There's an impressive forty eight of top fifty in the world rankings playing in the WGC in Austin this week. Although Golf Predictor is not designed for matchplay events, as usual the WGC has been put through the ringer! Meanwhile, the US PGA Tour also heads back to the Dominican Republic. With so many big names playing in Texas, the field is decidedly second tier in the Caribbean. There are only three members of the top one hundred in the world teeing it up in the Dominican Republic. It is a similar story in India, where the European Tour only has four of the top hundred in the world playing in New Delhi.

2019 - Week 12 Winners

Scott Hend (ranked 51st by Golf Predictor) won the Maybank Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 45 year old Australian won his third tour title with a play-off victory in Malaysia. Trailing by three shots overnight, Hend closed with a 67 (-5) to finish level with overnight leader Nacho Elvira. Indeed, Elvira had to hole a long birdie putt 100 minutes after the pitch during a thunder storm that produced it just to make it to extra holes. Despite hitting trees with his first two shots on the first extra hole, Hend took the title with a winning birdie. Our top ranked player, Ryan Fox, finished in tied 36th and in an event where many of the bigger names did not perform, we had only eight of the top twenty plus ties (8/24).

Paul Casey (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won the Valspar Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 41 year old Englishman defended a professional title for the first time with another victory at the event. On a tough final day, Casey was over par for the day, but still won by a shot from Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Kokrak. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, didn't fire on the final day, going birdieless but still finishing in tied 6th. Overall, we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties on the challenging Copperhead layout (7/23).

2019 - Week 12 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Maybank Championship (European PGA Tour) and the Valspar Championship (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. As the build up to Augusta begins in earnest, eight of the top twenty in the world rankings are teeing it up in Florida, including world number one Dustin Johnson. Meanwhile, the European PGA Tour is back in Malaysia, where the field isn't quite as impressive in steamy Kuala Lumper!

2019 - Week 11 Winners

Guido Migliozzi (ranked 78th by Golf Predictor) won the Magical Kenya Open pres. by Absa on the European PGA Tour. The 22 year old Italian won his first tour title with an assured final day's play in East Africa. Migliozzi edged clear of a crowded leaderboard on the closing stretch and held his nerve admirably to close it out and win by a single shot. Our top ranked player, last week's winner Justin Harding, finished strongly for tied 2nd and despite the poor field, we had twelve of the top seventeen plus ties (12/23).

Rory McIlroy (ranked 4th by Golf Predictor) won The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 29 year old Northern Irishman finally sealed another victory with a strong finish at Sawgrass. McIlroy overcame a slow start on Sunday to finish with two late birdies for a one shot victory over Jim Furyk. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished in tied 5th for his first top ten at the event. Overall, we had eight of the top twenty plus ties (8/21) in an event where many of the bigger names failed to perform on the tough layout.

Region Change Accommodated on Golf Predictor

Due to The Players Championship moving back to March and thus into the Florida Swing, I have had to accommodate this on Golf Predictor. This is because the Florida Swing is one of the "logical" regions on Golf Predictor (along with the West Coast Swing) and is distinct from tournaments held in Florida at other times of the year (such as The Players Championship in previous seasons on Golf Predictor).

This means that from 2019 on (and while it remains it March), The Players Championship will be deemed to be in the Florida Swing, rather than the Florida US region. However, when viewing stats in the system for The Players Championship in seasons before 2019, the event will remain in the original Florida US region. In addition, when computing region stats for the Florida Swing, The Players Championship will only be included from 2019 on (and while it remains it March).

The updating of the system to allow for a region change will make it easy in the future to add any other similar changes to the system. This latest update means Golf Predictor now deals with changes in course par, tournament name, tournament format, season structure, course region and player names. Besides that, there are are no complications in the system!

2019 - Week 11 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, The Players Championship (US PGA Tour) and the  Magical Kenya Open pres. by Absa (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there's a very strong field for the so called "fifth major" in Florida, with all of the top fifty in the world rankings teeing it up at Sawgrass. That doesn't leave much top talent for the European Tour, which heads to Kenya for an event elevated from the Challenge Tour. There, last week's winner Justin Harding is only golfer inside the top one hundred in the world rankings. Note that the course history from the Challenge Tour event is not tracked by Golf Predictor.

2019 - Week 10 Winners

Justin Harding (ranked 5th by Golf Predictor) won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 32 year old South African broke out of a packed leaderboard to win his first tour title in Qatar. Despite a poor third round, Harding regrouped and pulled away with a string finish to win by two shots from nine runners-up. Our top ranked player, Thomas Pieters, missed the cut and we had nine of the top twenty plus ties (9/26) in the wind affected event.

Francesco Molinari (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard on the US PGA Tour. The 36 year old Italian won his third tour title by coming through the field at Bay Hill. Molinari also overcame a poor Saturday, roaring home with 64 (-8) on Sunday to post the winning score early. He could then watch while his opponents failed to match him, including overnight leader Matthew Fitzpatrick, who finished two shots back in second. Our top ranked player, Justin Rose, faded badly over the weekend and we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/22*) on the testing layout. 


*Day withdrew, promoting Wallace into the top 22 of the  rankings.

2019 - Week 10 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters (European PGA Tour) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor.  The European Tour stays in the Arabian Gulf this week, where the action moves to Qatar. Meanwhile, there is a much better field in Orlando, where thirteen of the top twenty in the world are teeing it up at Bay Hill. However, all eyes will be once again on Tiger Woods, who's continuing his latest comeback on a course where he has had tremendous success in the past. 

2019 - Week 9 Winners

Kurt Kitayama (ranked 59th by Golf Predictor) won the Oman Open on the European PGA Tour. The 26 year old American continued the impressive start to his tour career, winning his second tour title in just his eleventh start. In a week of calamities in the windy conditions, Kitayama overcame a disastrous start to his third round where he dropped six shots in his opening three holes to prevail by a single shot in the desert. Our top ranked player, defending champion Joost Luiten, finished in tied 12th and we had only five of the top eighteen plus ties (5/20) in the weak fielded and weather affected event.


Keith Mitchell (ranked 82nd by Golf Predictor) won The Honda Classic on the US PGA Tour. The 27 year old American won his maiden tour title on one of the toughest tracks on the PGA Tour. Trailing by one overnight, Mitchell holed a fifteen foot putt on the last to win by a single shot from Rickie Fowler and Brooks Koepka. Our top ranked player, defending champion Justin Thomas, finished in tied 30th. Overall, we only had five of the top sixteen plus ties (5/19).
