2014 - Week 22 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Nordea Masters (European PGA Tour) and the Memorial Tournament pres. by Nationwide Insurance (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there's a strong field for Jack's tournament, with seven of the world's top ten teeing it up in Ohio. The field in Sweden is therefore not so strong, with local favourite Henrik Stenson the highest ranked player at number 2 in the world.

2014 - Week 21 Winners

Rory McIlroy (ranked 4th by Golf Predictor) won the BMW PGA Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 25 year old Northern Irishman put his very recent personal troubles and dislike of the Wentworth course behind him to record his first win on the European Tour in exactly eighteen months. Our top ranked player, Henrik Stenson, finished in tied 7th and we had seven of the top sixteen plus ties (7/20).

Adam Scott (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial on the US PGA Tour. The 33 year old Australian overcame a sluggish start to win his first tour event as world number one. Scott won with an impressive birdie on the third extra hole against Jason Dufner. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, surprisingly missed the cut, but we had ten of the top fourteen plus ties (10/20).

2014 - Week 21 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the BMW PGA Championship (European PGA Tour) and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the flagship event on the European Tour this week and as usual there is a strong field vying for the title in England. There's a strong field in Texas also, where Adam Scott will be playing his first tournament as the top golfer in the world rankings. However, he'll have to hold off some stiff opposition, such as the top ten machine, Matt Kuchar, if he's to make a winning start as top dog!

2014 - Week 20 Winners

Miguel Angel Jimenez (ranked 5th by Golf Predictor) won the Open de Espana on the European PGA Tour. The 50 year old Spaniard finally won his home open after decades of trying in a play-off with Richard Green and Thomas Pieters. A par on the first extra hole gave the popular Spaniard the victory and ensured he extended his record as the oldest winner on the European PGA Tour for the second time. Our top ranked player, Sergio Garcia, finished in tied 15th and we had ten of the top fifteen plus ties (10/25).

Brendon Todd (ranked 48th by Golf Predictor) won the HP Byron Nelson Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 28 year old American won his first tour title by two shots with an assured final day performance. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, had yet another top ten finish and finished in tied 7th. Overall, we had nine of the top sixteen plus ties (9/21) in total.

2014 - Week 20 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Open de Espana (European PGA Tour) and the and the HP Byron Nelson Championship (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. While there are several big names teeing it up in Texas this week, the field in Spain is not quite so stellar. Fresh off a good showing at The Players Championship, Sergio Garcia headlines his home open. Meanwhile, the two main protagonists for much of the final day at Sawgrass, Jordan Spieth and winner Martin Kaymer, are among those big names playing in the Byron Nelson.

2014 - Week 19 Winners

Daniel Brooks (ranked 15th by Golf Predictor) won the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal - BPI on the European PGA Tour. The 27 year old Englishman won the weather and tragedy affected event at the first extra hole of a play-off with Scott Henry. However, Brooks' maiden victory was overshadowed by the sad passing of Alastair Forsyth's caddy Iain McGregor on the course from a heart attack. The event was plagued by persistent fog and had to be reduced to thirty six holes, unusually with a cut after the first round. Our top ranked player, Ricardo Santos, finished in tied 52nd and we had eight of the top sixteen plus ties (6/23) in an event that is usually hard to predict, even when it isn't shortened by the weather!

Martin Kaymer (ranked 27th by Golf Predictor) won The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 29 year old German hung on after a weather delay to became only the fourth European winner of the prestigious title. Holding a three shot lead after fourteen holes, Kaymer double bogeyed the fifteenth after a weather delay and needed a curling thirty foot par putt on the famous seventeenth to win by a single shot from Jim Furyk. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, finished in tied 17th and we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/22).

Historical Stroke Averages Added to 'Golfer Prediction' Page

Course History panel for Phil Mickelson for the 2014 Players Championship, with new stroke average stat
Further to a recent discussion on Twitter, new historical stroke average stats have been added to the golfer 'Prediction' page on Golf Predictor. These new stats are the overall stroke average for the chosen golfer on the same course, in the same tournament and in the last twelve similar tournaments (last five years). These new stats can be found in the relevant panel, as shown above in the screenshot above of the Course History panel for Phil Mickelson ahead of the 2014 Players Championship. The existing data has had to be moved around slightly for a more logical layout and you may have to reload a page to see these new stats.

The stroke average was already available for the GP Season and this enhancement adds the same stat for the three main historical data panels. The historical data panels already showed the number of rounds played, but now you can also see the average score for a golfer across those rounds. Note that these new stroke average stats are available from week 19 of the 2014 GP Season (the week of The Players Championship  and the Madeira Island Open - Portugal - BP). Older tournaments whose predictions have had to re-run* will also have these new stats. Just another way to improve Golf Predictor, the premier US and European PGA Tour statistics site.

*Occasionally, this happens if, for example, a player with several versions of his name is found and his prediction stats have to be consolidated.

2014 - Week 19 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, The Players Championship (US PGA Tour) and the Madeira Island Open - Portugal - BPI (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there's a very strong field for the so called "fifth major" in Florida. The only absentees from the top twenty in the world rankings are the injured Tiger Woods and Jason Day. As usual, not so strong a field in Madeira, where a whopping 108 golfers are outside the top one thousand in the world rankings.

2014 - Week 18 Winners

Felipe Aguilar (ranked 34th by Golf Predictor) won The Championship at Laguna National on the European PGA Tour. The 39 year old Chilean won his second tour title with a fantastic back nine on the final day. Aquilar came home in 28 (-8), including a two-two finish to win by a single shot on -23. In doing so, he became the first person to win on the main European Tour with a hole out on the last. Our top ranked player, Bernd Wiesberger, finished in tied 38th and in an event where many of the relatively big names didn't perform, we had five of the top seventeen plus ties (5/19).

J.B. Holmes (ranked 33rd by Golf Predictor) won the Wells Fargo Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 32 year old big hitting American won his first title since his brain surgery in 2011 and his third overall with a nervy finish on the Green Mile. Leading by three shots with the three difficult holes to play, Holmes chopped it up the last and managed to hole his bogey putt for a one shot victory. Our top ranked player, Rory McIlroy, finished in tied 8th and we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties (7/22) in total.
