2010 - Week 24 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Memorial Tournament pres. by Morgan Stanley (US PGA Tour) and The Celtic Manor Wales Open (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Monty has set up the Twenty Ten course to his liking for his Ryder Cup dry run. Pity most of his team haven't shown up! Meanwhile, a good quality field has assembled as usual in Ohio for Jack's tournament. This year, five of the top six in the world are teeing it up, including Tiger Woods. Let's hope he brings his A (or at least his B+) game!

2010 - Week 23 Winners

Zach Johnson (ranked 21st* by Golf Predictor) won his first title of the season on the US PGA Tour at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The American put an indifferent season behind him to win with a record breaking total of 259 (-21) and claim that super cool plaid jacket! Almost all the big names performed poorly this week, including our top ranked player, Phil Mickelson. Lefty missed the cut on his return to the event after the hiatus last year due to his wife's illness. Despite that, we had nine of the top twenty two plus ties (9/25).

In Europe, Luke Donald (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) finally broke his winless streak at the Madrid Masters. The Englishman finished with a 67 to win his first title in four years by a single shot. Including predicting the winner, we had eight of the top sixteen plus ties (8/20).

*His namesake Dustin didn't play, but was ranked higher, so we exclude him.

2010 - Week 23 Predictions Online

2010 - Week 22 Winners

Jason Day (ranked 65th by Golf Predictor) won his maiden title on the US PGA Tour at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. The 22 year old Australian, who almost didn't play due to illness, won despite bogeying the last. Luckily for him, his closest challenger and playing partner Blake Adams double bogeyed the 72nd hole. Our top ranked player, Hunter Mahan, finished in tied 50th and we had ten of the top twenty three plus ties (10/25) in total.

Simon Khan (ranked 91st by Golf Predictor) came through the field to win the flagship event on the European PGA Tour, the BMW PGA Championship. The likeable Englishman finished with an impressive 66 on the remodelled Wentworth course to take the title that nobody else seemed to want to win! In a strange day's play where most of the leaders went backwards, number 471 in the world Khan came from nowhere to take the title. Our top ranked player, Lee Westwood, also finished strongly with a 66 for a share of 10th place and we had six of the top thirteen plus ties (6/16) in total.

2010 - Week 22 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the HP Byron Nelson Championship (US PGA Tour) and the BMW PGA Championship (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The PGA Championship is the flagship event in Europe and a revamped Wentworth has some big names appearing this week. Indeed, five of the world top ten are teeing it up on the west course, although there isn't an American in sight!

2010 - Week 21 Winners

Adam Scott (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) put in a fine Sunday display to end his two year drought on the US PGA Tour. The Australian hit 66 and 67 in the final two rounds on Sunday at the weather affected Valero Texas Open. Our top ranked player, Ernie Els, finished in tied 3rd and we had five of the top thirteen plus ties (5/16) in total.

On the European PGA Tour, a Swedish golfer won for the second week in a row, with Peter Hanson (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) taking the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor Mallorca title. Hanson won for the third time despite being penalised a shot for a double hit on the 12th. He came back superbly from that hiccup to beat Alejandro Cañizares at the first extra hole of their play-off. In an event where only 4 golfers broke par due to the difficult conditions, we had eight of the top sixteen plus ties (8/23). However, our top ranked player, Soren Hansen, missed the cut.

2010 - Week 21 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Valero Texas Open (US PGA Tour) and the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor Mallorca (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The fields are somewhat weaker than last week, but in the US, after The Players Championship, the only way is down. The relatively minor Mallorca event in Europe has a purse considerably less than the first prize in Sawgrass last week!

2010 - Week 20 Winners

Following in Rory McIlroy's footsteps, Tim Clark (ranked 17th by Golf Predictor) put in a brilliant weekend display to finally win on the US PGA Tour. The South African had a bogey free final two rounds (66 - 67) to win the prestigious Players Championship. Longtime leader Lee Westwood once again came up short with a poor inward nine. World number one (for now!) Tiger Woods pulled out on the final day with a neck/back (depending on where you read it!) injury. Our top ranked player, Phil Mickelson, finished in tied 17th and therefore failed to dislodge Tiger from top spot in the rankings. In an event where most big names failed to perform, we had five of the top seventeen plus ties (5/21)* in total.

On the European PGA Tour, Fredrik Andersson Hed (ranked 37th by Golf Predictor) also ended a long wait for a maiden victory. The Swede finally won at the 245th time of asking at the BMW Italian Open, which will delay his 15th visit to Q-school for a few years! He did his best not to win though, almost throwing away an overnight 6 shot lead. Our top ranked player, Edoardo Molinari, finished in tied 13th and we had seven of the top thirteen plus ties (7/16)** in total.

*Tiger Woods (ranked 2nd) withdrew, so we exclude him.
**Simon Dyson (ranked 8th) withdrew, so we exclude him.

Slight Enhancement to Score Distribution Charts

The average round score has been added to the round distribution charts on Golf Predictor. These charts are available on tournament pages for completed events (e.g. "View Options/Tournaments" menu option in the member section). Just another way to make Golf Predictor even better!

2010 - Week 20 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, The Players Championship (US PGA Tour) and the BMW Italian Open (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, a quality field has assembled in Sawgrass and it will be interesting to see if Rory McIlroy can keep his form going and if Tiger can turn his around! I believe it is the first time ever Woods is not the top ranked golfer on Golf Predictor for an event in which he is playing.

2010 - Week 19 Winners

A brilliant weekend display by Rory McIlroy (ranked 17th by Golf Predictor) enabled him to storm to his maiden US PGA Tour victory in the Quail Hollow Championship. The soon to be 21 year old Northern Irish man became the youngest winner on tour since Tiger in 1996 in some style. He broke the course record by 2 shots with a wonderful closing 62. Despite just making the cut on the number, McIlroy went 16 under par over the weekend to run away with the title. Reminiscent of Tiger in his pomp, McIlroy negotiated one of the toughest finishing stretches on the PGA Tour with some aplomb. He closed with 6 straight threes, including a majestic eagle at the 15th to claim victory over a quality field. Speaking of Tiger, he was our top ranked player, but he crashed out on Friday with a very ragged back nine. However, we had seven of the top seventeen plus ties (7/21) in total.

On the European PGA Tour, Alvaro Quiros (Garcia) (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) delighted the home crowd by becoming the third Spaniard to win the Open de Espana. The big hitting Quiros beat in form rookie Morrisson at the first hole of a sudden death play-off to join Seve and Sergio in the home grown winners circle. Our top ranked player, Francesco Molinari, finished in tied 27th and we had twelve of the top seventeen plus ties (12/26) in total.

Quail Hollow Predictions Update

Since the Quail Hollow second round leader, Billy Mayfair, was a late replacement, he wasn't in the original field list on Monday. We have therefore re-run predictions on Golf Predictor using the subsequent field updates. This resulted in approximately four removals and 3 additions from/to the prediction list. No other changes were made. You may have to refresh the prediction pages to see the amended prediction list.
