Fantasy Golf Leagues Still Available

It's not too late to join a fun fantasy golf league this season. Our friends at Pro Tour Fantasy Golf have the following leagues starting at the Masters:

  1. Majors 1 - $10 entry ($500 for 1st place, $650 in other cash prizes)
  2. Majors 2 - $25 entry ($1,000 for 1st place, $100 for high weekly score, $1,100 in other prizes)
  3. League 4 - $25 entry (Extend your fantasy golf season by playing through the FedEx Cup)

We here at Golf Predictor can personally testify that these leagues are very easy to manage and great fun to play. You also have a much greater chance of winning a cash prize than other leagues. So why not sign up and enjoy the rest of the season (with Tiger!) even more?

2010 - Week 15 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Shell Houston Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Unusually for a US PGA Tour event, there are only two Americans in our top ten. I guess a lot of the top foreigners are there to do some final tuning for the Masters! There is no event on the European PGA Tour this week.

2010 - Week 14 Winners

In a great week for South African golf, Ernie Els (ranked 5th by Golf Predictor) won for the second time in a row on the US PGA Tour. Having not won in two years, the Big Easy followed up his success at Doral with victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Our top ranked player, Steve Stricker, finished in tied 52nd place and in an event where many big names failed to perform, we had four of the top fourteen plus ties (4/16) in total.

On the European PGA Tour, another South African, Louis Oosthuizen (ranked 3rd by Golf Predictor) finally secured his maiden tour title at the Open de Andalucia. The 27 year old went one better than last week and put four runners up finishes behind him to join his compatriots, Els and Schwartzel, in the winners' circle this season. It also earned him a return trip to Augusta as the win propelled him into the world's top fifty. Our top ranked player, Alvaro Quiros Garcia, finished in tied 45th and we had four of the top six plus ties (4/11) in total.

It
was also a great week for the Molinari brothers. Francesco finished 4th in Malaga & Edoardo finishing 2nd behind Els in Bay Hill!

US PGA Tour Fall Series Available

The US PGA Tour Fall Series is now listed on now on Golf Predictor. That includes the new McGladrey Classic in Georgia and the Frys.com Open, which appears to be moving to another new home! Interestingly, there are two free weeks before the last event of the season in the Disney resort. This is probably a result of the economic malaise, but if a new sponsor is found somewhere for another event, we will of course add it to Golf Predictor.

2010 - Week 14 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Open de Andalucia (European PGA Tour) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Interestingly, this week sees the first time Phil Mickelson isn't the number one favourite on Golf Predictor in a tournament without Tiger.

2010 - Week 13 Winners

Jim Furyk (ranked 14th by Golf Predictor) followed Ernie Els' lead last week and ended his US PGA Tour title drought at the Transitions Championship. Although starting Sunday with a three shot cushion, the man with the best ugliest swing in golf, ended up winning by a single shot from K.J. Choi (ranked 14th*) for his first victory in almost three years. Our top ranked player, Steve Stricker, finished in tied 8th place and we had eight of the top thirteen plus ties (8/15)* in total.

On the European PGA Tour, Rhys Davies (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) secured his maiden tour title at the Trophée Hassan II in Morocco. The young Welshman overcame a two shot deficit with a final round 66 (-7) to win by two from Louis Oosthuizen (ranked 2nd). Our top ranked player, Francesco Molinari, finished in tied 10th and we had seven of the top fifteen plus ties (7/18) in total.

*Vijay Singh didn't play so K.J. Choi is promoted to 14th and Stephen Ames to 15th.

2010 - Week 13 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Trophée Hassan II (European PGA Tour) and the Transitions Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The Trophée Hassan II is a rare beast - a new event on the European PGA Tour! Let's hope it's here for the long run. It's first field isn't particularly strong, but at least it plugs a hole in the schedule!

2010 - Week 13 Predictions Delayed

Due to the late finish of the Puerto Rico Open, the predictions for this week won't be available on Golf Predictor until tomorrow. We will endeavour to produce them as soon as possible.

Sunday 14 March 2010

2010 - Week 12 Winners

Ernie Els (ranked 14th by Golf Predictor) won his first US PGA Tour title since 2008 at the WGC-CA Championship in Florida. The Big Easy finished with a 66 (-6) for a 4 shot victory over compatriot Charl Schwartzel. Our top ranked player, Phil Mickelson, finished in tied 14th place and we had six of the top sixteen plus ties (6/17) in total.

In the lesser US PGA Tour event, the Puerto Rico Open, Derek Lamely (ranked 40th by Golf Predictor) became the first rookie since Marc Turnesa in 2008 to win. Our top ranked player, Jeev Milkha Singh, finished in tied 24th and we had six of the top seventeen plus ties (6/23) in total.

2010 - Week 12 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the WGC-CA Championship (European/US PGA Tour) and the Puerto Rico Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The full field for the WGC-CA Championship proved difficult to find. If it becomes available later in the week, we'll update the predictions accordingly. There is no secondary event on the European PGA Tour this week.

Sunday 7 March 2010

2010 - Week 11 Winners

Camilo Villegas (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won his third US PGA Tour title at the Honda Classic. With a three shot overnight lead, the Colombian was never really threatened in the final round, eventually winning by five shots. Our top ranked player, Lee Westwood, finished in tied 9th place and in another event where many of the bigger names failed to perform, we had four of the top nine plus ties (4/11) in total.

In Asia, Korean teenager Seung-Yul Noh (ranked 40th by Golf Predictor) became the youngest ever winner of a European PGA Tour title at the Maybank Malaysian Open. Despite being all over the shop on the last, 18 year old Noh birdied it to defeat his older compatriot K.J. Choi by a single shot. Our top ranked player, Thongchai Jaidee, could only manage an even par final round and finished in tied 7th. Overall, in a low quality field that was difficult to predict, we had eight of the top nineteen plus ties (8/24) in total.

Slight enhancement to 'Prediction Data' Page

We've added some extra sorting capabilities to the results grids on the Prediction Data pages for each golfer ('Stats Analysis' menu) on Golf Predictor. You can now sort the season/historical/similar results tables by tournament name and by cut (made/missed/not applicable). We have also renamed the 'Year' columns to the more accurate 'Seas.' (short for 'Season') as some European PGA Tour events are held in the preceding calendar year. The 'M Cut' columns have also been changed to 'Md Cut' as it could be ambiguous whether the existing name referred to missed cut (incorrect) or made cut (correct). Just another way to make Golf Predictor slightly better!

2010 - Week 11 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Maybank Malaysian Open (European PGA Tour) and the Honda Classic (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The European PGA Tour is back in action this week in steamy Malaysia, while the US PGA Tour is heading to the slightly less steamy Florida! The field isn't great in the Malaysian event, which will make predicting the outcome even more challenging than usual.

2010 - Week 10 Winner

Hunter Mahan (ranked 21st by Golf Predictor) overcame a four shot deficit to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the US PGA Tour. The 27 year old American secured his second US PGA Tour title with an impressive four hole burst from the 13th, which he covered in four under par. Mahan covered the last 36 holes without a single bogey, which is an impressive way to win a tournament by a single shot! Our top ranked golfer, Phil Mickelson, continued his indifferent start to the season by finishing in tied 24th place and we had five of the top fourteen plus ties (5/23) in total.
