2009 - Week 50 Winners

The penultimate week of the 2009 Golf Predictor season (combined US/European PGA Tours) was a busy one, with three tournaments on three different continents. Tiger Woods (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won for the first time in Australia at the JBWere Masters on the European PGA Tour. Woods thereby added about €175k to his reported $3million appearance fee, which should be enough to pay for the private jet which took him on his Asian/Australian jaunt! Including the winner, we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/20) in total.

Meanwhile in Asia, Grégory Bourdy (ranked 55th by Golf Predictor) held off a charge by Rory McIlroy to take his third European PGA Tour title at the UBS Hong Kong Open. The young Irishman will rue his three putt on the 17th, but can take solace in the fact that his second consecutive runners-up finish in Hong Kong propelled him to the top of the Race to Dubai rankings. Our top ranked player and former Race to Dubai leader, Lee Westwood, finished in tied 54th, but we had ten of the top eighteen plus ties (10/21) in total.

In the final event of the 2009 US PGA Tour season, Stephen Ames (ranked 6th* by Golf Predictor) won for the second time in three years at the Children's Miracle Network Classic. The Canadian mastered the difficult greens with a 64 in the final round to make the play-off with Justin Leonard and George McNeill. Ames took the title on the second extra hole after McNeill lipped out. Leonard, who had also lipped out on the 72nd hole had been eliminated at the previous hole. Our top ranked player, Zach Johnson, finished in tied ninth and we had four of the top nine plus ties (4/10) in total.


*Steve Marino was originally ranked sixth on Golf Predictor, but he didn't play.
