2012 - Week 22 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the ISPS Handa Wales Open (European PGA Tour) and the Memorial Tournament pres. by Nationwide Insurance (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there's a strong field for Jack's tournament, with Tiger Woods and new (again!) world number one Luke Donald among the seven of the world's top ten teeing it up in Ohio. As usual also, the field in Wales is not so strong, with only one top 30 world ranked golfer playing at Celtic Manor.

2012 - Week 21 Winners

Luke Donald (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the flagship BMW PGA Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 34 year old Englishman returned to the top of the world rankings with an assured title defence at Wentworth. The previous incumbent at he top of the rankings,Rory McIlroy, disappointingly missed the cut, leaving Donald clear to retake the coveted top spot. Including the winner, we had ten of the top eighteen plus ties (10/21).

Zach Johnson (ranked 3rd by Golf Predictor) won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial on the US PGA Tour. The 36 year old American won a final day two horse race with the in-form Jason Dufner after the latter triple bogeyed the fifteenth hole. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, finished in tied 26th and we had twelve of the top nineteen plus ties (12/25) in total.

2012 - Week 21 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the BMW PGA Championship (European PGA Tour) and the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the flagship event on the European Tour this week and this is reflected in the strong field that has assembled to vie for the title. It's not often that the European Tour overshadows its American counterpart, but it helps that the top three players in the world are members! The Colonial has to make do with the world number five Matt Kuchar as the headliner!

2012 - Week 20 Winners

Nicolas Colsaerts (ranked 8th by Golf Predictor) won the Volvo World Match Play Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 29 year old Belgian continued his remarkable recent record in Volvo events by beating Graeme McDowell on the 18th green of the final. Golf Predictor isn't designed for match play events, but as the annual joke goes, we had 24 of the top 24!!!!

Jason Dufner (ranked 6th by Golf Predictor) won his second title at the HP Byron Nelson Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 35 year old American didn't let his recent nuptials prevent him from adding to his maiden victory three weeks ago! Dufner rolled in a 25 foot birdie putt on the final green to pip Dicky Pride to the title. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, finished in tied 15th and we had eight of the top nineteen plus ties (8/23) in total*.

*John Huh was a non-finisher, thus promoting Ryan Palmer into the top 23 in our rankings.

Bernd Wiesberger's Prediction Records Fixed on Golf Predictor

The problem with Bernd Wiesberger's incorrect world ranking on has been finally fixed on Golf Predictor. The 79 tournaments that the Austrian played in that were affected by this naming issue have all been updated. This means that in addition to all his statistics being updated for those tournaments, the GP rankings for all these events have been retrospectively updated with Wiesberger in his correct position.

As this was a large number of events and likely to be an issue for other golfers in the future (due to inconsistent naming of golfers beyond my control), I wrote various scripts to automate the process. While the writing and testing of said scripts took some time, it did save a lot of tedious manual updating. It also means I will be able to fix any similar future issues in a matter of minutes, thus helping Golf Predictor to remain as one the most accurate sources of golfer information!

2012 - Week 20 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Volvo World Match Play Championship (European PGA Tour),  the HP Byron Nelson Championship (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. Even though Golf Predictor is designed for stroke play events, the Volvo World Match Play Championship has also been put through our wringer! Big winner last week, Matt Kuchar, will be headlining the field in Texas, while Martin Kaymer is the only member of the world's top ten teeing it up in Spain.

2012 - Week 19 Winners

Ricardo Santos (ranked 9th by Golf Predictor) won the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal on the European PGA Tour. The 29 year old delighted the home support by becoming the first Portugeuse player to win on home soil. Santos did it in style too, finishing with an impressive 63 (-9) to win by four strokes. Our top ranked player, Tommy Fleetwood, finished in tied 51st and we had six of the top sixteen plus ties (6/21) in an event that was hard to predict.

Matt Kuchar (ranked 10th by Golf Predictor) won The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 33 year old American won the biggest title of his career by two shots over a quartet that included last week's winner Rickie Fowler and Scotland's Martin Laird. Our top ranked player, Luke Donald, finished in 6th and we had six of the top fifteen plus ties (6/22) in an event where a lot of the bigger names failed to perform.

2012 - Week 19 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal (European PGA Tour) and The Players Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there's a strong field for the so called "fifth major", even if Masters champion Bubba Watson is the latest big name to snub the event. Meanwhile in Europe, there's a particularly weak field for the event on Madeira, which returns to the Santo da Serra course for the first time since 2008.

2012 - Week 18 Winners

Francesco Molinari (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the Reale Seguros Open de Espana on the European PGA Tour. The 29 year old Italian won his third tour title in style, finishing with a 65 (-7) to win by three shots. The tough layout in Seville combined with the weather over the first three days gave the players a stern test of golf. Including the winner, we had eight of the top sixteen plus ties (8/20).

Rickie Fowler (ranked 18th by Golf Predictor) won the Wells Fargo Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 23 year old American finally started to fulfil his potential by seeing off D.A. Points and new (again!) world number one Rory McIlroy on the first extra hole. Fowler sealed victory with a bold wedge to four feet on the tough eighteenth hole to set up the winning birdie. McIlroy was our top ranked player, so we just missed out on having a rare double winner week! Despite some of the bigger names (e.g. Woods, Mickelson and Mahan) not performing too well, we had eight of the top fifteen plus ties (8/20) in total.

'Tournament Winners' Page with Prediction Rank Added to Golf Predictor

Tournament winners page showing new link below Tour dropdown box

PR Distribution for the winners on the 2010 European Tour

A new 'Tournament Winners (Prediction Rank)' page has been added to Golf Predictor. It is accessed from a link on the recently updated 'Tournament Winners' page, as shown in the first screenshot above. This new page is similar to the 'Tournament Winners' page, except that instead of showing a world ranking column and charts, it shows the prediction rank for that golfer on Golf Predictor prior to the tournament (otherwise known as the GP rank).

This means that the table on the page has a sortable prediction ranking (PR) column and there are links to charts showing the PR breakdown of the season winners and the winners with the lowest and highest PR. This is shown in the second screenshot above for the 2010 European PGA Tour season. These three charts are available for both the European PGA Tour and the US PGA Tour, giving a total of six new charts. The PR breakdown charts also displays the average, standard deviation, highest and lowest PR above the chart, as shown in the second screenshot. As usual, hovering over a bar shows more information, as displayed for the 11-20 category in the second screenshot above. These new charts are only available from the 2009 season onwards, because that was our first full season and PR information is obviously only available on Golf Predictor for tournaments we have predicted.

These six new charts bring the total number of charts on the site to 318. This new 'Tournament Winners (Prediction Rank)' page and associated charts are a premium feature and thus only available to subscribers. So, sign up today to get the most out of Golf Predictor, the premier US and European PGA Tour statistics site.
