2016 - Week 30 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the US PGA Championship (European/US PGA Tour) and the King’s Cup pres. by PTT Group ((European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the final major of the season and the PGA Championship heads to Baltusrol for the first time since 2005. Due to the Olympics, it's the second major in three weeks and also the last chance for nine months (up from the usual 8!) for a golfer to land one of those prestigious titles. Meanwhile, the European Tour head back to Thailand where a second string field will battle it out for the inaugural King's Cup.

2016 - Week 29 Winner

Jhonattan Vegas (ranked 60th by Golf Predictor) won the RBC Canadian Open on the US PGA Tour. The 31 year old Venezuelan won his second tour title with a strong finish in Canada. After starting very well last week and fading over the weekend, Vegas birdied his last three holes on Sunday to shoot 64 and post -12. It didn't look likely to be enough, but a series of unforced errors by his challengers meant none could catch him. That meant Vegas finally won again, five years after his maiden victory. Our top ranked player, defending champion Jason Day, finished well for tied 14th and we had eight of the top fourteen plus ties (8/22).

There was no tournament on the European Tour this week.

2016 - Week 29 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the RBC Canadian Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Defending champion and world number one Jason Day is one of those who have jetted over from Scotland to tee it up in Canada this week. Not many of the bigger names have joined him, but he does have the in-form world number two Dustin Johnson for competition. There is no tournament on the European Tour this week.

2016 - Week 28 Winners

Henrik Stenson (ranked 6th by Golf Predictor) won The Open Championship on the European/US PGA Tour. The 40 year old Swede won his first major in a titanic weekend duel with Phil Mickelson that was reminiscent of the classic Duel in the Sun between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus at Turnberry in 1977. Both players traded blows over the final two days, but it was Stenson who prevailed with an incredible display on Sunday. In relatively difficult conditions, Stenson finished with a ten birdie 63 (-8) to win by three from a resurgent Mickelson, whose own 65 and finishing total would have won all but four of the previous 144 Open Championships! Our top ranked player, Jason Day, finished in tied 22nd and we had eight of the top eighteen plus ties (8/21) in the wind affected tournament. 

Aaron Baddeley (ranked 24th by Golf Predictor) won the Barbasol Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 35 year old Australian won his fourth tour title play-off with Si Woo Kim. Despite being twelve shots back going into the weekend, Baddeley finally holed a putt to beat the young Korean at the fourth extra hole. Kim had also finished strongly over the weekend, with both golfers overhauling Jhonattan Vegas who had led by six strokes after shooting a second round 60. Baddeley missed four putts to win, before finally sealing his first win in five years with a twenty seven foot birdie. It was an emotional victory for Australian, who had lost his card last season. Our top ranked player, Roberto Castro, finished in tied 11th and we had thirteen of the top twenty plus ties (13/30) in total in this second tier event.

2016 - Week 28 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, The Open Championship (European/US PGA Tour) and the Barbasol Championship (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. The excitement is mounting this side of the pond for the most venerable major of them all, which returns to Royal Troon for the first time since 2004. All eyes will be on the in-form Dustin Johnson, who is coming off two big wins and will be aiming to add the claret jug to his burgeoning trophy cabinet! Meanwhile, a second string field is once again lining up for the US PGA Tour tournament in Alabama.

2016 - Week 27 Winner

Alexander Noren (ranked 31st by Golf Predictor) won the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open on the European PGA Tour. The 33 year old Swede won his fifth tour title at blustery Castle Stuart. Noren took a two shot lead into Sunday and although he was caught briefly around the turn, he pulled away again on the back nine and won by a shot over Tyrrell Hatton. It was a profitable closing birdie for Hatton, as it earned him almost €300,000 extra! Our top ranked player, Henrik Stenson, finished tied 13th. Overall, we only had eight of the top thirteen plus ties (8/20*) in the wind affected event.   

The Greenbrier Classic was cancelled on the US PGA Tour, due to the dreadful flooding in West Virginia.

2016 - Week 27 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the final week before the Open Championship and it's the last chance for a competitive tune up. There are a few big names playing in Scotland this year, with  Phil Mickelson once again leading an American contingent hoping to get some competitive links practice before heading to Troon. However, most of the big name golfers are taking the week off and heading to Troon early. The Greenbrier Classic due to be held this week has been cancelled due to the recent severe flooding in West Virginia. Our thoughts are with those affected, especially those who lost family members or friends.

2016 - Week 26 Winners

Thongchai Jaidee (ranked 9th by Golf Predictor) won the 100th Open de France on the European PGA Tour. The 46 year old Thai won his eight tour title with an impressive weekend performance. Jaidee went 40 holes without a bogey on the tough Le Golf National layout until the very last hole. That meant he had to settle for a four shot victory on a day where he was never put under any pressure. Despite bedding in some swing changes, our top ranked player, Rory McIlroy, finished in third place and we had eleven of the top sixteen plus ties (11/21).

Dustin Johnson (ranked 42nd by Golf Predictor) won the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational on the European/US PGA Tour. The 32 year old American continued his recent US Open form by securing his second big title in a row. Although Johnson finished strongly on the weekend, he still needed help from world number one Jason Day to take the title. Day looked in control until a series of ropey drives late in the round saw him drop four shots in the final four holes and fall to tied third. Day was our top ranked player and we had ten of the top sixteen plus ties (10/20) in total.

Greg Chalmers (ranked 82nd by Golf Predictor) won the Barracuda Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 42 year old Australian secured his first tour title at the 386th time of asking with a six point win over Gary Woodland in the modified Stableford event. It was still difficult to get over the line, as Chalmers needed a five point eagle on the final hole and a bogey from Woodland on the same hole to finally get that win. Our top ranked player, Brendan Steele, finished in tied 5th and we had only six of the top seventeen plus ties (6/19) in the second tier event.
