In a great week for South African golf, Ernie Els (ranked 5th by Golf Predictor) won for the second time in a row on the US PGA Tour. Having not won in two years, the Big Easy followed up his success at Doral with victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Our top ranked player, Steve Stricker, finished in tied 52nd place and in an event where many big names failed to perform, we had four of the top fourteen plus ties (4/16) in total.
On the European PGA Tour, another South African, Louis Oosthuizen (ranked 3rd by Golf Predictor) finally secured his maiden tour title at the Open de Andalucia. The 27 year old went one better than last week and put four runners up finishes behind him to join his compatriots, Els and Schwartzel, in the winners' circle this season. It also earned him a return trip to Augusta as the win propelled him into the world's top fifty. Our top ranked player, Alvaro Quiros Garcia, finished in tied 45th and we had four of the top six plus ties (4/11) in total.
It was also a great week for the Molinari brothers. Francesco finished 4th in Malaga & Edoardo finishing 2nd behind Els in Bay Hill!
