2010 - Week 19 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Quail Hollow Championship (US PGA Tour) and the Open de Espana (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. With four out of the top five in the world at Quail Hollow (including one Tiger Woods), it's easy to figure where most golfing interest will be this week! Having said that, the predictions for the Open de Espana came very close to having two brothers top the rankings for the first time!

PGA Tour Statistics

The main purpose of Golf Predictor is to produce comprehensive European PGA Tour  and US PGA Tour statistics. The PGA Tour statistics for future events are presented as PGA Tour predictions and are produced by the our predictions engine each week in advance of the tournament(s) starting.

However, in addition to PGA Tour statistics on future events, there is also a wealth of PGA Tour statistics for completed tournaments, players and golf courses on Golf Predictor. Once the tournament results have been input into the system (usually on Sunday evening or Monday morning), PGA Tour statistics such as average round score and field performance are available to view. There is also a myriad of other PGA Tour statistics available, such as finding everyone who finished in a particular position in any tournament or the average world ranking of tournament winners all season.

You can get an idea of the comprehensive information available on the About Golf Predictor page or by registering for Golf Predictor for free and looking around. You may view the PGA Tour statistics for future tournaments by clicking on a golfer name on one of the many predictions pages in the "Predictions" and "Form" menus. You can view the PGA Tour statistics for completed tournaments, golfers and golf courses on almost any page in the "Information" menu. The PGA Tour statistics on Golf Predictor are under constant review and new features are added as they are suggested by users or thought of by me!

PGA Tour Predictions

In addition to supplying comprehensive PGA Tour statistics, one of the main purposes of Golf Predictor is to produce European PGA Tour predictions and US PGA Tour predictions. These PGA Tour predictions are produced by our predictions engine each week in advance of the tournament(s) starting. Barring an unusual delay, the PGA Tour predictions are generally available on Golf Predictor by the Monday evening (GMT) of the tournament week.

Occasionally, due to a scheduled Monday finish, a weather delay, a hold-up in the availability of the necessary golf statistics (e.g. latest world ranking data) or unforeseen personal circumstances, the PGA Tour predictions may be generated on a Tuesday. This is actually a better day to run predictions as the field for each event is much less volatile than the previous day. This tended to be more of a factor in the lesser tournaments on the calendar, where the field could vary considerably between the Monday and Tuesday. The generation of the PGA Tour predictions on Golf Predictor was once moved briefly to Tuesdays for this reason. However, some users preferred to have the the data on the Monday, however inaccurate the field might be at that point, so the generation of the PGA Tour predictions reverted back to Mondays. Occasionally, with volatile fields, the PGA Tour predictions had to be regenerated if there is one or more significant changes to the field. However, with the addition of tee-off groups to Golf Predictor in mid 2013, this has become less of an issue. When the tee-off groups are entered into the system, predictions for golfers that were on the original entry list but not the newer tee-off groups list are deleted. Likewise, predictions are created for golfers on the tee-off groups list who were not on the original entry list. The addition of these tee-off groups have ensured much more accurate fields in Golf Predictor since its inception.

The generated PGA Tour predictions contain a wealth of objective statistics and charts for each golfer in the tournament field. You can get an idea of the comprehensive information available on the About Golf Predictor page or by registering for Golf Predictor for free and looking around. You may view any of the PGA Tour predictions by clicking on a golfer name on one of the many predictions pages available from the "Predictions" and "Form" menus.

The only subjective statistic generated in the PGA Tour predictions is the GP Score, which serves to rank the field by likelihood of winning. Depending on which statistic (e.g. course history, similar tournament history or recent form) you consider most important, you may decide that a lower ranked golfer is more likely to perform well in a given tournament. You can apply your own custom weightings to various metrics and rank the entire field accordingly and also filter the field by over fifty different metrics. The statistics displayed in the PGA Tour predictions are under constant review and new features are added as they are suggested by users or thought of by me!

2010 - Week 18 Winners

Jason Bohn (ranked 25th by Golf Predictor) led from start to finish to claim victory in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the US PGA Tour. The American secured his second tour title with a final round of 67 (-5) for a two shot win. Our top ranked player, K.J. Choi, finished in tied 37th and in an event where practically all the bigger names failed to perform, we only had two of the top sixteen plus ties (2/20). That makes this event the least predictable of all those on both tours over the past two years or so!

On the European PGA Tour, Marcus Fraser (ranked 40th by Golf Predictor) followed up on his maiden win seven years ago with victory in the weather shortened Ballantine's championship in Korea! The Australian also completed a wire to wire 54 hole victory with a 69 in testing conditions to win by four shots. Our top ranked player, Ernie Els, finished in tied 11th and we had seven of the top sixteen plus ties (7/21) in total.

2010 - Zurich Classic of New Orleans Predictions Updated

Due to the late withdrawal of our top ranked player Steve Stricker from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, we have had to take the unprecedented step of regenerating the predictions for a tournament after it has started. Also unprecedented is the late withdrawal of the top two players in the field, as Ian Poulter also withdrew a little earlier in the week.

Since the predictions are in part calculated relative to the highest ranked player in the field, it was necessary to take this step. No other changes or tweaking was done and the early leaderboard was not peeked at! The new rankings are now available on Golf Predictor. Note that you may have to refresh/reload the prediction pages to see the changes.

2010 - Week 18 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (US PGA Tour) and the Ballantine's Championship (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Y.E. Yang will be hoping to keep up his recent great form on home soil, although given the forecast, he better be a good wind player! Neither event this week has a particularly good field, but there are a few big names in each tournament.

2010 - Week 17 Winners

Jim Furyk (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) put his poor Masters showing behind him with victory in the Verizon Heritage on the US PGA Tour. Furyk beat Brian Davis in a playoff after the noble Englishman called a penalty on himself. Despite no one else noticing any infraction, Davis reported an incident in a green side hazard that cost him a two shot penalty and a chance of the title. Our top ranked player, Paul Casey, finished in tied 22nd and in an event where many big names failed to perform, we had six of the top fourteen plus ties (6/21).

On the European PGA Tour, Y.E. Yang (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) followed up his good Masters showing with a long trip and a two shot victory in the Volvo China Open! The 38 year old US PGA Champion played solid golf in windy and damp conditions, going 50 holes without a bogey. Unfortunately, he ruined that impressive streak on the very last hole! Our top ranked player, Henrik Stenson, finished in tied 8th and we had seven of the top eight plus ties (7/15) in total.

Chart Availability Changed on Player Results Page

We have changed the access to the charts on the 'Results by Player' page (Member section, 'View Options' menu) on Golf Predictor. Previously, all members could access every performance chart on this page. However, this has now been changed to allow access to subscribed members only. This was done because this is now considered to be a premium feature. As a taster, unsubscribed members can still see the Round 2 performance for the golfer in question. So, sign up today to get the most out of Golf Predictor, the premier US & European PGA Tour statistics site.

2010 - Week 17 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Verizon Heritage (US PGA Tour) and the Volvo China Open (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's back to normality after the excitement of Augusta at the weekend! The Volvo China Open, which wasn't finalised until lately, is been held at a different course this year, the par 72 7326 yard Suzhou Jinji Lake Golf Club in North West China. Those golfers heading there from the Masters will have a slightly longer trip than those going to Hilton Head!

2010 - Week 16 Winners

A revitalised Phil Mickelson (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) ended a four year wait for his fourth major title at the enthralling US Masters in Augusta. Despite a poor start to the season, the 39 year old American turned on the fireworks over the weekend to end Lee Westwood's hopes of a first major. There were emotional scenes afterwards as Mr. and Mrs. Mickelson shared one of the longest televised hugs in TV history! Our top ranked player, Tiger Woods, finished in an almost amazing tied 4th place, despite struggling with his game after a five month lay off. Overall, we had five of the top ten plus ties (5/11).

On the European PGA Tour, James Morrison (ranked 10th by Golf Predictor) won the second string Madeira Islands Open BPI. The 25 year old English man held off a charging Oliver Fisher to win by a single shot in the end. Our top ranked player, Richie Ramsay, finished in tied 58th, despite being the highest ranked golfer in the field by a country mile. We had six of the top thirteen plus ties (6/18) in total.

2010 - Week 16 Predictions Online

The predictions for this week, the Masters (European/US PGA Tour) and the Madeira Islands Open BPI (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. While the first major of the season on the hallowed turf of Augusta is always exciting for golf fans, I think it's fair to say that interest this year will be off the charts! With the return of Tiger Woods to competitive action, there won't be another news story in town! Let's hope his golf driving isn't as errant as his automobile driving!! Unsurprisingly, he's still the favourite, despite not having played competitively this season. With his track record at Augusta and in the majors in general, who'd bet against him?

There is also a second string event on the European PGA Tour this week. T
he Madeira Islands Open BPI features one of the weakest fields in top tier golf, with only one golfer out of the top 200 in the world teeing up (Richie Ramsay). I fear those hardy souls (the weather will be somewhat wild!) will be very much overlooked this week, but at least they too can watch the Masters in the evening!

Major Enhancements to Golf Predictor

We are pleased to announce that Golf Predictor has been made even better! A lot of time and effort has gone into a major upgrade of the site "under the hood". While it looks the same, almost every page on the site has been updated to improve performance and maintainability, amongst other things.

Every page has been thoroughly tested, but because this is a major update, some bugs may have slipped under the radar. If you spot any, please let us know and we will fix them as soon as possible.
