Results Tables Updated on Prediction Page

New look table showing position colour coding, round columns and amended pop-up text for Brandt Snedeker's results for the 2013 GP season prior to the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard
Further to the new 'Past Scoring Records' tables added to various pages on Golf Predictor, the results tables on the Prediction page for each golfer have been updated. Using the new sortable round columns, you can easily find the selected golfer's best and worst rounds (rounds 1-4) for the following sets of tournaments:
  1. Prior events in the same GP season
  2. Relevant historical events
  3. Last 12 similar events
  4. Events held in similar weather
  5. Events held on similar length course.
This is shown above for Brandt Snedeker's 2013 GP season results ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard. Clicking on a round row column header allows you to sort the round scores in ascending or descending order. It was decided to add the rounds to the results tables like this rather than in separate tables like the other pages for the following two reasons:

  1. I felt that adding five new tables to show these stats on a page with so many stats already would be excessive. It would also mean at least 40 more computations (for max and min for rounds one to four for each results table), which wouldn't do overall page performance any good.
  2. More importantly, it was much easier to do it like this!

To make room for the round information, the "Made Cut" column has been removed. This has been moved into the pop-up text (see screenshot above) and also incorporated into the new colour coding for the finishing positions (more below). In addition, round five has been left out of the results tables due to space constraints. There are currently no five round events on either tour and  there have been only two since 2003 (the 2003-11 Bob Hope and the 2003 Las Vegas Invitational), so this should not be an issue. In any event, round five information is now also provided in the pop-up (see screenshot above), should it be relevant.

As also shown in the screenshot above, the Position column on the results tables have been colour coded similar to the Compare Form page. This will allow you to identify wins (red), top tens (yellow), withdrawals (brown) and missed cuts (blue) much more easily than before. The colour code itself is shown over the first results table, as can be seen above.

These updates to the Prediction page make it much more useful and are available to all users. However, this is true only for the golfers you are permitted to view (all golfers for subscribers, those ranked 11-25 for non-subscribers). 2013 - Week 13 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Trophee Hassan II (European PGA Tour) and the Shell Houston Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Although no longer the final tune-up for the Masters, there's still a pretty strong field in Houston, where the course is as usual set up like Augusta. Recently disposed world number one, Rory McIlroy, will be no doubt anxious to wrestle his crown back off Tiger Woods with a strong display in Texas. While five of the top ten in the world are teeing it up on the US PGA Tour, the field is unsurprisingly not as strong in Morocco. Only one of the top fifty in the world is competing in Agadir, so it's no surprise that he is the hot favourite!

2013 - Week 13 Predictions Delayed

Due to the late finish of the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard, the predictions for this week (Trophee Hassan II and the Shell Houston Open) will be late on Golf Predictor. It now looks like it will be tomorrow (Tuesday) before they can be produced as I must wait for the latest world rankings to become available. I apologise for the delay, which is beyond my control.

2013 - Week 12 Winners

Louis Oosthuizen (ranked 24th by Golf Predictor) won the Maybank Malaysian Open on the European PGA Tour. The 23 year old Thai won his maiden tour title by one shot in the weather shortened 54 hole event. Our top ranked player, Luke Donald, disappointingly missed the cut for the first time in a regular tour event after making the long journey from Florida. I'm sure the trip was still worth his while though! Overall, we had eight of the top seventeen plus ties (8/21) in the truncated event.

Tiger Woods (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard on the US PGA Tour. The fourteen time major champion grabbed his third win of the season and a remarkable eighth victory at the event. Mother Nature also had a hand in this tournament, forcing a Monday finish after high winds and heavy rain halted play on Sunday. However, Woods, who was leading by three shots when play was halted, was not to be denied the 99th win of his professional career, duly completing the job with two shots to spare. That should set him up nicely for a tilt at another green jacket in two weeks time! Including the winner (and the runner up!), we had eleven of the top twenty one plus ties (11/26)*.

*Due to withdrawals etc,. Walker is promoted to the top 26 in the rankings.

  2. Course Page Table: Use this to see the best and worst rounds shot on the selected course since 2003. Hovering over a score will reveal the golfer(s) who shot that score, when it was shot and the then name of the tournament.
  3. Golfer Page Table: Use this to see the best and worst rounds shot by the selected golfer since 2003. Hovering over a score will reveal where and when the golfer shot that score.
  4. Results by Golfer Page Table: Use this to see the average (plus number of rounds), best and worst rounds shot by the selected golfer on the selected tour in the selected season since 2003. Hovering over a score will reveal where and when the golfer shot that score.
  5. Tournament Statistics (Rounds) Page Table: Use this to see the average score vs par, average (plus number of rounds), best and worst rounds shot on the selected tour in the selected season since 2003.  Hovering over a score will reveal the golfer(s) who shot that score, when it was shot and the then name of the tournament.

Historical Round Scores Table Added to 'Tournament Statistics (Rounds)' Page

2012 US Tour Season Scoring Records
Similar to the recent enhancement to the Results by Golfer page (and other pages), a  new 'Past Scoring Records' table has been added to the 'Tournament Statistics (Rounds)' page on Golf Predictor. A round averages table already existed on this page, but this has been amended to be more like the similar tables recently added to the site. The improvements include the addition the best/worst rounds (with pop-ups), the round counts and a column for round 5*. As shown in the screenshot above for the 2012 US PGA Tour, this new table shows the average score vs par and the average, best and worst rounds on the selected tour (European/US) in the selected GP season (since 2003). Similar to before, you can also hover over a round score to see more details. This is also shown above for the highest second round (and highest overall) score on the US PGA Tour in 2012 - an unfortunate 93 by Doug Wade in the US PGA Championship.

This new enhancement differs from the similar table added to the 'Results by Golfer' page last week in the following ways:
  1. On this page, all rounds from the selected season are analysed. On the 'Results by Golfer' page, only the rounds played in the selected season by the selected golfer are used to generate the stats.
  2. As mentioned above, the table on this page also shows the average score vs par for the selected season as it was on the table it is replacing.
This new enhancement is only available for where there is at least one stroke play event on the selected tour in the selected season and makes the 'Tournament Statistics (Rounds)' page even more useful. However, like before, this new functionality is a premium feature and thus only available to subscribed members. So, sign up today and continue to get the most out of Golf Predictor, the premier US and European PGA Tour statistics site.

*Round 5 has been left out of the main table on this page due to space constraints. In any case, there are currently no five round events on either tour and  there have been only two since 2003 (the 2003-11 Bob Hope and the 2003 Las Vegas Invitational).

2013 - Week 12 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Maybank Malaysian Open (European PGA Tour) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational pres. by Mastercard (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. There's a strong field (twelve of the top twenty in the world) in Orlando as the first major of the season looms large on the horizon! Tiger Woods will be hoping to win Arnie's event yet again and close the gap even more on Rory McIlroy at the top of the world rankings.

Meanwhile in steamy Malaysia, Luke Donald is headlining the field and the Englishman is one of only two of the top twenty in the world teeing it up in Kuala Lumpur. I wonder what made him fly half way around the world directly after his good showing in Tampa?!

2013 - Week 11 Winners

Thomas Aiken (ranked 12th by Golf Predictor) won the Avantha Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 29 year old South African won his second tour title, holding off the field on the final day after a superlative 62 (-10) on Saturday had established a 3 shot lead. Our top ranked player, Thongchai Jaidee, finished in tied 43rd and in an event where a lot of the bigger names didn't perform, we had six of the top seventeen plus ties (6/22) in total.

Kevin Streelman (ranked 59th by Golf Predictor) won the Tampa Bay Championship pres. by EverBank on the US PGA Tour. The 34 year old American won won his first PGA Tour event at the 153th time of asking with an assured weekend performance. Streelman went bogey free over his final 37 holes on the tough Copperhead layout to win by two. Our top ranked player, Luke Donald, finished in tied 4th and in another event where a lot of the bigger names didn't perform, we had six of the top seventeen plus ties (6/20).

Historical Round Scores Table Added to 'Results by Golfer' Page

2012 Scoring Records table for Tiger Woods
Similar to the recent enhancement to the Golfer page (and other pages), a  new 'Past Scoring Records' table has been added to the 'Results by Golfer' page on Golf Predictor. As shown in the screenshot above for Tiger Woods on the 2012 US PGA Tour, this new table shows the average, best and worst rounds by the selected golfer on the selected tour (European/US) in the selected GP season (since 2003). Similar to before, you can also hover over a round score to see more details. This is also shown above for Tiger's highest second round score in 2012 - a 73 which he shot twice that season. This new enhancement differs from the similar table added to the Golfer page last week in the following ways:

  1. On this page, only the rounds from the selected tour and season are analysed. On the Golfer page, all the rounds played by the golfer since 2003 are used to generate the stats.
  2. Unlike the similar page on the Golfer page, the average round score is displayed on this page. As shown in the screenshot above, the round count is also displayed in parentheses (and a smaller font) beside the average round score.

This new enhancement is only available for golfers who have played at least one stroke play event on the selected tour in the selected season and makes the 'Results by Golfer' page even more useful. However, like before, this new functionality is a premium feature and thus only available to subscribed members. So, sign up today and continue to get the most out of Golf Predictor, the premier US and European PGA Tour statistics site.

2013 - Week 11 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Avantha Masters (European PGA Tour) and the Tampa Bay Championship pres. by EverBank (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. While a few big names are teeing it up in Tampa, as usual no big guns have made the trip to India. However, there is a large local contingent, which is great for Indian golf, but not so good for field strength!

2013 - Week 10 Winners

Tiger Woods (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the WGC - Cadillac Championship on the European/US PGA Tour. The 37 year old American was back to his imperious best in winning the title for the seventh time and his seventeenth WGC title overall. Rory McIlroy overcame a stuttering start to finish strongly and give all his fans some hope for The Masters! Including the winner, we had nine of the top twelve plus ties (9/15).

Scott Brown (ranked 51st by Golf Predictor) won the Puerto Rico Open pres. by seepuertorico.com on the US PGA Tour. The 29 year old American won his first tour title with a birdie on the last, just a few months after losing his card at the end of last season. He won't have those concerns again for a while, having earned a 2 year exemption for his maiden win! Our top ranked player, Henrik Stenson, finished in tied 39th and in a very unpredictable event (and hence great for the bookies!), we only had four of the top eighteen plus ties (4/23).

Historical Round Scores Table Added to Golfer Page

Past Scoring Records (since 2003) table for Tiger Woods
Similar to the recent enhancements to the Tournament and Course pages, a  new 'Past Scoring Records' table has been added to the Golfer page on Golf Predictor. As shown in the screenshot above for Tiger Woods, this new table shows the best and worst rounds by the selected golfer in all European/US PGA Tour events since 2003. Similar to before, you can also hover over a round score to see more details. In this case, the tournament name, year, week number and the tour(s) is shown. This is also shown above for Tiger's highest second round score (and highest round score overall) since 2003 - a 79 in the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship*.

This new enhancement is only available for golfers who have played at least one stroke play event and makes the golfer page even more useful. However, like before, this new functionality is a premium feature and thus only available to subscribed members. So, sign up today and continue to get the most out of Golf Predictor, the premier US and European PGA Tour statistics site.

*Tiger actually failed to break 80 in The Open Championship in 2002, but that is before Golf Predictor records begin.

2013 - Week 10 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions/statistics for this week, the WGC - Cadillac Championship (European/US PGA Tour) and the Puerto Rico Open pres. by seepuertorico.com (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. All eyes will be on young Rory McIlroy and his tooth after his meltdown last week. It remains to be seen if he can turn his form (or dental health) around in such a short period of time, so picking him to win this week might be a tad risky! The aforementioned meltdown has been factored into the rankings this week. Without this adjustment, McIlroy would have been the top ranked golfer by a significant margin on hard stats alone. However, hard stats do not reflect state of mind, so it made sense to take mental fragility into account on this occasion.

While almost the big names (including the entire top fifty in the world rankings again this year) will be teeing it up at Doral, it's the usual second string line up for the Puerto Rican tournament. However, this year, the double major winner Angel Cabrera will be joined in the field by his son, Angel Junior. That might make Sunday afternoon interesting if both are challenging for the honours!

2013 - Week 9 Winners

Dawie van der Walt (ranked 96th by Golf Predictor) won the inaugural Tshwane Open on the European PGA Tour. The 30 year old South African won his first tour title on home soil with a solid final day performance, closing with a 67 (-5) to beat in-form compatriot Darren Fichardt by two shots. Our top ranked player, Jaco van Zyl, withdrew after round one and most of the bigger names in the field didn't perform. Overall, we had only seven of the top twenty one plus ties (7/26)*.

Michael Thompson (ranked 100th by Golf Predictor) won the Honda Classic on the US PGA Tour. On a weekend of difficult scoring conditions due to the wind, the 27 year old American finished two shots clear of Geoff Ogilvy to land his first tour title. However, events in Florida were dominated by the sudden withdrawal midway through a disastrous second round by world number one and our top ranked player, Rory McIlroy. After being +7 after 8 holes, McIlroy walked off the course after again finding water on his ninth hole. A subsequent statement blamed a hitherto unknown wisdom tooth problem for the withdrawal. His explanation seemed to have several holes in it and the mainstream and social media channels were only too happy to discuss it at length! World number two Tiger Woods failed to capitalise on this somewhat bizarre situation, finishing in tield 37th. Overall, we had seven of the top thirteen plus ties (7/17)**.

It is unusual for one top ranked player to withdraw for a tournament, but for it to happen in both events in the same week was unprecedented. At least van Zyl didn't have to put up with much media scrutiny! In a further co-incidence, the players who did end up winning had very similar rankings in their respective events.

*Due to several withdrawals and non-starts, Soren Kjeldsen gets promoted to the top 26 in our rankings.
**Due to a couple of withdrawals and non-starts, Rickie Fowler gets promoted to the top 17 in our rankings.
