Daniel Brooks (ranked 15th by Golf Predictor) won the Madeira Islands Open - Portugal - BPI on the European PGA Tour. The 27
year old Englishman won the weather and tragedy affected event at the first extra hole of a play-off with Scott Henry. However, Brooks' maiden victory was overshadowed by the sad passing of Alastair Forsyth's caddy Iain McGregor on the course from a heart attack. The event was plagued by persistent fog and had to be reduced to thirty six holes, unusually with a cut after the first round. Our top
ranked
player, Ricardo Santos, finished in tied 52nd and we had eight of the top sixteen plus ties (6/23) in an event that is usually hard to predict, even when it isn't shortened by the weather!
Martin Kaymer (ranked 27th by Golf Predictor) won The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 29 year old German hung on after a weather delay to became only the fourth European winner of the prestigious title. Holding a three shot lead after fourteen holes, Kaymer double bogeyed the fifteenth after a weather delay and needed a curling thirty foot par putt on the famous seventeenth to win by a single shot from Jim Furyk. Our top ranked player, Matt Kuchar, finished in tied 17th and we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/22).
