2018 - Week 42 Winners

Xander Schauffele (ranked 20th by Golf Predictor) won the WGC - HSBC Champions on the European/US PGA Tour. The 25 year old American won his first WGC title in a play-off in Shanghai. On a difficult blustery final day, Schauffele shot the lowest round, a 68 (-4), to catch overnight leader Tony Finau after 72 holes. The younger American then played the par five eighteenth in exemplary fashion, with his tap in birdie good enough after Finau left his putt to half criminally short. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, was one of several big names not to perform well and finished in tied 30th. Despite that, we had a very respectable fourteen of the top twenty one in total.

Cameron Champ (ranked 52nd by Golf Predictor) won the Sanderson Farms Championship on the US PGA Tour. The aptly named 23 year old American won his maiden tour title with an impressive finish on Sunday. Despite leading by four shots overnight, Champ was caught by Corey Conners after an ordinary start to his final round. However, the long hitting rookie collected himself and hit five birdies in his last six holes to  restore his advantage and win in only his ninth start on tour. Our top ranked player, Dylan Frittelli, finished in tied 54th and we had only five of the top fourteen plus ties (5/18) in an event that is traditionally hard to call.
