Rory McIlroy (ranked 9th by Golf Predictor) won The Open Championship on the European/US PGA Tour. The 25 year old Northern Irishman emulated last year's winner Phil Mickelson by completing the third leg of a career grand slam. However, McIlroy has achieved the feat at a much younger age and joins the illustrious company of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to have won three majors by the age of twenty five. On a day of low scoring, McIlroy held off the charging field with a relatively modest closing round of 71 (-1). Our top ranked player, Adam Scott, finished in tied 5th place and we had six of the top twelve plus ties (6/14).
