2016 - Week 26 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the 100th Open de France (European PGA Tour), the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational (US PGA Tour) and the Barracuda Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The WGC event has been moved to an earlier slot this year because of the return of golf to the Olympics. The PGA Tour didn't bother to consult with their European counterparts, who as it turns out, were very unhappy that it now clashed with the centenary running of one of their biggest tournaments. In the ensuing row, the European Tour stripped the WGC of its sanctioning, increased the prize fund, offered double Ryder Cup points and double counting towards Race to Dubai obligations to the Open de France. This managed to get Rory McIlroy and a few other Europeans over to Paris at the expense of the WGC, which still boasts a pretty strong field. Meanwhile, the second string Stableford event in Reno has to make do with only two golfers from the top one hundred in the world rankings as all the big names playing this week are teeing it up in Ohio or France.

2016 - Week 25 Winners

Henrik Stenson (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won the BMW International Open on the European PGA Tour. The 40 year old Swede went one better than last year and won his tenth fourth tour title by three shots. Despite pulling out of last week's US Open with "minor neck and knee injuries", Stenson showed no ill effects with having to play almost two full rounds on Sunday to take the title. Our top ranked player, Danny Willett, disappointingly missed the cut. Overall, we had nine of the top twenty one plus ties (9/27) in the weather affected event.

Billy Hurley III (ranked 105th by Golf Predictor) won the Quicken Loans National on the US PGA Tour. The 34 year old American won his maiden tour title with an impressive display at Congressional. The former navy lieutenant blew the field out of the water with a chip in birdie on fifteen and a twenty seven foot birdie putt on sixteen to give himself a welcome three shot cushion. Hurley kept his nerve and that gap to the end, winning by three shots from veteran Vijay Singh. It was an emotional win for Hurley, whose well publicised tragedy with his father kicked off at this tournament last year. Our top ranked player, Rickie Fowler, finished in tied 44th and we had eleven of the top twenty one plus ties (11/29) in total.

2016 - Week 25 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the BMW International Open (European PGA Tour) and the Quicken Loans National (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. There aren't many big names at Tiger Woods' tournament this week (including the man himself!) as they mostly decided to recover from the trials and tribulations of the US Open at Oakmont. The European event also has a few names that featured in the second major of the year making the trip from Pittsburgh to Germany to compete.

2016 - Week 24 Winner

Dustin Johnson (ranked 4th by Golf Predictor) won the US Open on the European/US PGA Tour. The 31 year old American finally won his first major after a series of near misses, including in this event last year. Johnson once again put on a tremendous driving display, which set up his three shot victory over a trio of golfers, including Shane Lowry, the third round leader by four shots. However, his win wasn't without controversy, after his ball moved on the fifth green. Johnson was given the all clear at the time, but was told on the twelfth tee that he needed to review it after his round and face a possible one shot penalty. That farcical decision created much uncertainly among the contenders and appeared to affect the conclusion of the tournament. Many top players were critical on social media, but fortunately, Johnson was four ahead at the end, so the eventual one shot penalty didn't directly decide the outcome. Our top ranked player, Jason Day, had a bad start, but like Rory McIlroy last year, put on a final day spurt before fizzling out and finishing in tied 8th. Overall we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties (7/22*) on the difficult Oakmont layout in the weather delayed event.

*Stenson withdrew, promoting Zach Johnson to the top 22 in the GP Rankings.

2016 - Week 24 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the US Open (European/US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. The excitement is mounting for the second major of the season on the fiendishly difficult Oakmont layout! The par 70 layout will feature very fast greens and penal rough, by all accounts. All eyes will be on the so called big three of Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy, but nearly man Dustin Johnson is also showing fine form and will be hoping to finally get over the line this week.

2016 - Week 23 Winners

Ashun Wu (ranked 25th by Golf Predictor) won the Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card on the European PGA Tour. Despite a mid round wobble, the 30 year old Chinese golfer steadied the ship to secure his second tour title. Wu overcame a double bogey-bogey start to the back nine to record two birdies coming in to win by a single shot from Adrian Otaegui. Our top ranked player, Chris Wood, finished well on Sunday for tied 6th and we had ten of the top nineteen plus ties (10/23) in total.

Daniel Berger (ranked 6th by Golf Predictor) won the FedEx St. Jude Classic on the US PGA Tour. The 23 year old American won his first tour title with an impressive putting display on Sunday. Despite a shaky start, Berger's blade baled him out several times on the front nine and he steadied the ship to win his maiden title fairly comfortably in the end. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished very strongly on Sunday for 5th place and we had eight of the top eighteen plus ties (8/25).

2016- Week 23 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card (European PGA Tour) and the FedEx St. Jude Classic (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Although it's the last chance for a tune up before the US Open, there aren't many of the top golfers playing this week. Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are probably the biggest stars teeing it up in Memphis, while recent winner Chris Wood and local favourite Bernd Wiesberger are the only members of the world's top fifty playing in Austria.

2016 - Week 22 Winners

Matthew Fitzpatrick (ranked 11th by Golf Predictor) won the Nordea Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 21 year old Englishman eased to his second tour title with an impressive performance in Sweden. Fitzpatrick grabbed control of the tournament after the second round and  brought a five shot lead into the final day. He was never really in danger during the last round and he cruised to a three shot victory. Our top ranked player, Henrik Stenson, finished well for tied fourth and we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties (7/19)

William McGirt (ranked 40th by Golf Predictor) won the Memorial Tournament pres. by Nationwide Insurance on the US PGA Tour. The 36 year old American journeyman finally won his maiden tour title at the 166th time of asking in a play-off against Jon Curran at Muirfield Village. After both had finished on -15, two further visits to the tough eighteenth hole were needed to separate them. McGirt made an impressive up and down under severe pressure on both occasions, the second of which was enough to seal his breakthrough win. Despite a promising opening round and recent form, our top ranked player, Jason Day, failed to improve on his so-so record at Jack's tournament and finished in tied 27th. Overall, we had seven of the top eleven plus ties (7/19) in this event also.
