2016 - Week 24 Winner

Dustin Johnson (ranked 4th by Golf Predictor) won the US Open on the European/US PGA Tour. The 31 year old American finally won his first major after a series of near misses, including in this event last year. Johnson once again put on a tremendous driving display, which set up his three shot victory over a trio of golfers, including Shane Lowry, the third round leader by four shots. However, his win wasn't without controversy, after his ball moved on the fifth green. Johnson was given the all clear at the time, but was told on the twelfth tee that he needed to review it after his round and face a possible one shot penalty. That farcical decision created much uncertainly among the contenders and appeared to affect the conclusion of the tournament. Many top players were critical on social media, but fortunately, Johnson was four ahead at the end, so the eventual one shot penalty didn't directly decide the outcome. Our top ranked player, Jason Day, had a bad start, but like Rory McIlroy last year, put on a final day spurt before fizzling out and finishing in tied 8th. Overall we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties (7/22*) on the difficult Oakmont layout in the weather delayed event.

*Stenson withdrew, promoting Zach Johnson to the top 22 in the GP Rankings.
