Henrik Stenson (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won the BMW International Open on the European PGA Tour. The 40 year old
Swede went one better than last year and won his tenth fourth tour title by three shots. Despite pulling out of last week's US Open with "minor neck and knee injuries", Stenson showed no ill effects with having to play almost two full rounds on Sunday to take the title. Our top ranked player, Danny Willett, disappointingly missed the cut. Overall, we had nine of the top twenty one plus ties (9/27) in the weather affected event.
Billy Hurley III (ranked 105th by Golf Predictor) won the Quicken Loans National on the US PGA Tour. The 34 year old American won his maiden tour title with an impressive display at Congressional. The former navy lieutenant blew the field out of the water with a chip in birdie on fifteen and a twenty seven foot birdie putt on sixteen to give himself a welcome three shot cushion. Hurley kept his nerve and that gap to the end, winning by three shots from veteran Vijay Singh. It was an emotional win for Hurley, whose well publicised tragedy with his father kicked off at this tournament last year. Our top ranked player, Rickie Fowler, finished in tied 44th and we had eleven of the top twenty one plus ties (11/29) in total.
