Today marks the beginning of the 37th Ryder Cup match between the USA and Europe*. The most celebrated team event in golf had the worst kept secret in golf revealed to be true when Nick Faldo announced his pairings for the opening battles. Europe's best performers this season are leading the charge, with Padraig Harrington and Robert Karlsson teeing off in the opening foursomes against the formidable pairing of Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim. The other pairings are:
Leonard & Mahan v Stenson & Casey
Cink & Campbell v Rose & Poulter
Perry & Furyk v Westwood & Garcia
Let's hope it's a great weekend of golf and played in the proper spirit of the game. Let's hope also that Faldo can keep his cards a little closer to his chest for the rest of the battle!
*It was Britain and Ireland until 1979, but we were getting whupped too much!
