2008 - Week 49 Betting Performance

As mentioned in our week 49 round up, we here at Golf Predictor decided to put our money where our stats were and have a little wager. We had actually never done this before, but when we saw our 4th ranked player in the Frys.com Open (Kevin Sutherland) way down at 66/1 with a bookie, we couldn't help but have a punt.

This is exactly what Golf Predictor excels at - spotting value (or lack there of) in bookie odds. We took a small each way gamble on Sutherland and were sitting very pretty until the last few holes. We obviously were gutted when he caved in on the second play off hole, but we still won 1/4 of the odds for his top 5 finish (16.5/1) for a healthy profit!

While we were at it, we had a look at the odds for the European tournament (Castallo Masters) and noticed that Peter Hanson and Francesco Molinari (ranked 8th and 9th by us, respectively) were both at very generous odds to win (55/1 for Hanson, 60/1 for Molinari). We decided to put a small bet on one of them to achieve a top ten finish (roughly 1/10 the odds), but tragically, in our greed, we picked the wrong golfer! Our man, Molinari, threatened but ultimately ended up in joint 29th, while Hanson sailed into the top 10! Why we didn't back both men, we'll never know!

Oh the pain of that, coupled with the play-off loss! Still, it does show how Golf Predictor can help you make money. After only 1 week, we have 250% of our starting capital. Perhaps we should quit while we're ahead, but we're on the slippery slope now!
