Golf Predictor Features

Golf Predictor has a lot of functionality for the statistics loving golf fan, fantasy golfer, DFS golfer and golf gambler. This functionality has been evolving since the launch of the site in May 2008. The charts mentioned below are listed here. The list below outlines the current features of the Golf Predictor web site:

  1. First and foremost, you can see the entire field for each upcoming tournament ranked by GP Score. The GP Score is a measure of how likely a golfer is to win the tournament in question. There are 33 related charts available on this fully sortable 'Predictions Rankings' page.
  2. For each golfer in the field, there is a myriad of statistics and charts to peruse. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer shows his predicted finishing position, GP Score, GP Rank (predicted finishing position), comparison of his GP Rank and actual finishing position in previous tournaments, performance likelihood (more here). world ranking, world ranking points, cut streak, winless streak, field rank, tournament streak, rest streak, rounds played, scoring average, consistency (standard deviation), DFS (DraftKings & PlayON) Information, strokes gained data, best finish, worst finish and average finishing position. This data is shown for this season, in the tournament in the past 5 years, on the same course in the past 5 years, in the last 12 similar events (regular/major/WGC/FedEx Cup), in similar weather in the past 5 years, in the same time of year, in the same region, in similar strength events and on similar length courses in the last 5 years where appropriate. You can also see the average finishing position and consistency in the golfer's last 5 events (an indicator of form).
  3. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also show many cuts in a row the golfer has made and details of the last tournament where he failed to make the cut.
  4. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also shows the number of events, victories, top tens, missed cuts and withdrawals for this season, in the golfer's last 5 events, in the tournament in the past 5 years, on the same course in the past 5 years, in the last 12 similar events and in his career since 2003. The relevant percentages are also displayed in each case.
  5. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also shows the round stroke average for the season for each round (first - final round) and the number of rounds played in each case. You can also see the first round average in the tournament in the past 5 years, on the same course in the past 5 years and in the last 12 similar events.
  6. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also shows his season results, his related historical results, his results in his last 12 similar events, his results in similar weather over the past 5 years, results in the same region, results in similar strength events and and his results on similar length courses in the last 5 years. These metrics are also displayed visually on a spider chart.
  7. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also contains links to 46 related charts which display performance data for the current season and in relevant historical events. Many charts also have links to view the equivalent data from other seasons.
  8. The tournament 'Prediction Data' page for each golfer also contains 8 box plots which display results distribution data for the current season and in relevant historical events. 
  9. The 'Predictions Rankings (Streaks)' page shows the prediction rankings for the field with streak information for each golfer. Data shown include cut, winless, tournament and rest streaks. There are 19 streak related charts on this page.
  10. The 'Predictions Rankings (Odds)' page shows the prediction rankings for the field with the approximate fair odds for each golfer, as calculated by an algorithm based on the GP Score. 
  11. The 'Predictions Rankings (DFS) DraftKings' page shows the prediction rankings for the field with additional DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) golf analysis for each golfer. Salary and average points per game information from DraftKings (the largest DFS golf site) is analysed to identify good value picks. There are 9 DFS related charts on this page, including a zoomable field value chart.
  12. The 'Predictions Rankings (DFS) PlayON' page shows the prediction rankings for the field with additional DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) golf analysis for each golfer. Salary and average points per game information from PlayON is analysed to identify good value picks. There are 9 DFS related charts on this page, including a zoomable field value chart.
  13. The 'Predictions Rankings (Strokes Gained)' page shows the prediction rankings for the field of US Tour events with strokes gained for each golfer. Data shown include total strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green and strokes gained putting. There are nine strokes gained related charts on this page.
  14. The 'Predictions Rankings (Custom)' page allows you to generate your own prediction rankings for the field by using sliders/text boxes to assign weights to different statistics e.g. course form and world ranking.  
  15. The 'Predictions Rankings (Filter)' page allows you to filter the prediction rankings for the field by using sliders/text boxes to assign values to up to over fifty metrics e.g. cut streak and top tens on the course in the past five years.  
  16. The 'DFS Lineup Builder DraftKings' page also allows you to filter the prediction rankings for the field by using sliders/text boxes to assign values to up to over fifty metrics. You can also build a DraftKings lineup and export it to a DraftKings compatible CSV file.
  17. The 'DFS Lineup Builder PlayON' page also allows you to filter the prediction rankings for the field by using sliders/text boxes to assign values to up to over fifty metrics. You can also build a PlayON lineup for use on their system.
  18. You can see how the season form of each golfer compares to his form in his last five events leading up to the selected tournament. This tells you if a player has been playing better or worse than his season average coming up to the event. There are 2 related charts available on this fully sortable 'Form Golfers' page.
  19. You can view the past performance (last 5 years) of the field on the same course that the selected tournament is being held on. There are 12 related charts on this fully sortable 'Course History' page.
  20. You can view the past performance (last 5 years) of the field in the same tournament. There are 12 related charts on this fully sortable 'Tournament History' page.
  21. You can view the past performance (last 5 events) of the field. There are 12 related charts on this fully sortable 'Last 5 Events' page.

  27. You can rank all golfers with at least 45 tournaments played in the current season and the previous five seasons combined by their overall/early/mid/late season performance. There is also a plethora of stats for each season segment for each golfer. There are 21 related charts on the three pages with this functionality.
  28. You can rank the field in 30 metrics for any predicted tournament on the 'Field Rankings' page. Metrics include current season average, previous five events (current season) average, same course (previous five years) average, same tournament (previous five years) average, twelve similar events (reg./major/WGC/FedEx Cup) average, season scoring average, same region (previous five years) average,  similar strength events (previous five years), DraftKings salary, DraftKings ave points/game, PlayON salary, PlayON ave points/game, total strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained putting, world ranking, season round 1 average, season round 2 average, season Round 3 Average, Season Final Round Average, same course round 1 average, same tournament round 1 average, last 12 similar events round 1 average, cut streak and winless streak.
  29. You can see the top ranked golfers in the main metrics and selected historical metrics on the same page on the 'Field Rankings (Summary)' page. You can also highlight up to three golfers to compare in the data tables.

  108. You can view the results with the round rankings (position after each round) for the field for every tournament since 2003 on the 'Results By Round Rank' page. 
  109. You can see the historical performances in all tournaments for a golfer on the Player History page, which shows the tournaments he does best/worst in at a glance. 
  110. You can compare the odds from a number of on-line bookmakers for the golfers in upcoming tournaments, using the 'Golfer Odds' page. Note that the information comes from an external web site.
  111. You can search Golf Predictor for tournaments, golfers and courses using the 'Search' page.
  112. You can view/edit your profile information, change your password and subscribe to Golf Predictor using the 'My Golf Predictor' menu options.
  113. On the Profile page, you can set your chart orientation preference to horizontal or vertical. This will affect all bar and stack charts which feature golfer, tournament or course names.
  114. On the Profile page, you can set your tour default to 'US', 'European' or 'Both'. This will determine which tour's events are shown to you by default on the relevant pages.
  115. On the Profile page, you can set your odds format to 'Fractional', 'Decimal' or 'US'. This will determine how the approximate odds are displayed to you on the relevant pages.
  116. You can see how golfers in the tournament field have finished in similar tournaments (regular/WGC/major/FedEx) in the previous five years when in certain positions (leading, positions 2-5, positions 6-10, positions 11-20, positions 21-40 and outside top 40) after rounds one to three in those events.
