2018 - Week 49 Winners

David Lipsky (ranked 41st by Golf Predictor) won the Alfred Dunhill Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 30 year old American can won his second tour title with a solid performance at Leopard Creek. After overtaking overnight leader Scott Jamieson, Lipsky opened up a gap on the field. However, he made it hard on himself by doubling the sixteenth to lead by just one with two to play. Luckily, he as able to compose himself and he birdied the last to win by two strokes in the end. Last week's winner, Louis Oosthuizen, was our top ranked golfer and he finished in tied 7th. In an event that is usually difficult to predict (and not made any easier by the new greens!), we had ten of the top eighteen plus ties (10/25) in total.

There was no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

2018 - Week 49 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Alfred Dunhill Championship (European PGA Tour)  are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the last week of the 2018 GP Season and like last week, there is a strong South African contingent, including multiple champion Charl Schwartzel and last week's winner Louis Oosthuizen.

There is no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

2018 - Week 48 Winners

Louis Oosthuizen (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the South African Open. The 36 year old South African finally won his home Open with a great start and finish in Johannesburg. After opening with a 62 (-9) to lead, Oosthuizen fell behind until the end of the third round. Despite leading by three overnight, Oosthuizen was almost caught early on Sunday. However, he was able to rally and cruised to an emotional win on home soil. Oosthuizen was our top ranked player and we had seven of the top eighteen plus ties (7/20) in total.

There was no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

2018 - Week 48 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the South African Open* (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. Local favourites Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace headline the field in South Africa, which only has seven of the top one hundred in the world rankings. This year the championship is being held on the same course as last year's Joburg Open, so there will be a little bit of competitive course history to go on this week.

There is no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

*The full name of this event is the South African Open Hosted by City of Johannesburg, which is a little too verbose for Golf Predictor!

2018 - Week 47 Winners

Kurt Kitayama (ranked 49th by Golf Predictor) won the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Anahita on the European PGA Tour. The 25 year old American won his maiden tour title with an assured display in Mauritius. In only his third event since qualifying to play on the tour, Kitayama held off the field to win by two strokes. His lead was cut to one on the sixteenth, but a great birdie on seventeen coupled with some poor play from his nearest challengers meant he carried a two shot lead up the last. A safe par on the closing hole sealed the win for the American. Our top ranked player, defending champion Dylan Frittelli, finished strongly for tied 5th and we had six of the top seventeen plus ties (6/19) in the weak fielded event.

Cameron Smith (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won the Australian PGA Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 25 year old Australian successfully defended his title on the Gold Coast. Despite leading by three shots overnight, Smith was overtaken by Marc Leishman by the turn. However, Leishman faded on the back nine and Smith finished strongly to win by two shots in the end. Leishman was our top ranked golfer and despite the limited history in the system, we had eight of the top nineteen plus ties (12/31) in total.

There was no official event on the US PGA Tour this week. Golf Predictor doesn't cover the (very) restricted field junket that is the Hero Challenge!

2018 - Week 47 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Anahita (European PGA Tour) and the Australian PGA Championship (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf PredictorOf course, neither continent is Europe, but there are two events on two different continents on the European Tour this week. The first location is Mauritius, where despite the exotic setting in the Indian Ocean, only two golfers are inside the top one hundred in the world rankings. While this marks the fourth year that the Australian PGA has been on the European Tour (and hence on Golf Predictor), it has a long history, dating all the way back to 1905. However, only the tournament history for when it has been part of the European Tour (i.e. last three years) is available in Golf Predictor, so please factor that into your analysis.

There is no event on the US PGA Tour this week, except for Tiger's invitational junket (Hero World Challenge). As in previous years, Golf Predictor is not not covering that (very) restricted field event.

2018 - Week 46 Winner

Aaron Rai (ranked 32nd by Golf Predictor) won the Homna Hong Kong Open pres. by Amundi on the European PGA Tour. The 23 year old Englishman won his first tour title with an assured display in China. However, despite leading by six shots overnight and not doing much wrong on Sunday, Rai was put under pressure by a charging Matthew Fitzpatrick. Whoever, when Fitzpatrick bogeyed the penultimate hole, Rai used his two shot cushion to bogey the last and win by a single shot. Our top ranked golfer, Tommy Fleetwood, finished poorly on Sunday for finished tied 14th and we had fifteen of the top twenty plus ties (15/29*) in total.

There was no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

*Horsfield didn't play, promoting Chesters into the top 29 of the GP Rankings.

Region History Added to Winners Form Pages

New Region History for the winners in the 2018 GP Season (US Tour)
The 'Tournament Winners (Form)' and Tournament Winners (Form by Tournament)' pages have been enhanced with the same region history. These pages are available on the 'Other Stats' menu in the member section of Golf Predictor. This new region option has been added to the 'Previous 10 events form to analyse' drop-down list on each page. This is shown above for the winners in the 2018 GP Season (calendar year) on the US PGA Tour. As usual, hovering over a result will show some details about that particular tournament; this is shown above for Charles Howell's previous result in the same region as the RSM Classic.

This new historical form may make it easier to spot potential winners of future tournaments, by analysing the trends of past winners. Just another way to make Golf Predictor a little better!

2018 - Week 46 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Honma Hong Kong Open pres. by Amundi (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the first week of the 2019 European Tour, even though it's still 2018 and of course, it's not in Europe! There are several big names and a strong contingent of tour regulars playing in Hong Kong this year. American Patrick Reed continues to support the European Tour and he is joined by tour regulars and big names Tommy Fleetwood and Sergio Garcia at the iconic Fanling layout.

There is no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

2018 - Week 45 Winners

Danny Willett (ranked 48th by Golf Predictor) won the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai on the European PGA Tour. The 31 year old Englishman put his almost three year drought behind him with victory at the season ending event in Dubai. Willett started strongly on Sunday with a great eagle on the second, and although he was caught during the round, he also finished strongly to pull away and win by two shots. After overcoming injuries and loss of form since his Masters triumph in 2016, Willett was understandably emotional in his post round interview. Francesco Molinari capped a great year by securing the Race to Dubai title. Our top ranked player, Rory McIlroy, had another indifferent week with his wedges and finished tied 20th. Overall, we had eleven of the top twenty plus ties (11/21)

Charles Howell III (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won The RSM Classic on the US PGA Tour. The 39 year old American won his first PGA Tour title in over eleven years in a play-off with Patrick Rodgers in Georgia. After letting his overnight advantage slip, Howell finished strongly to tie the fast finishing Rodgers, who had cosed with a record setting 61-62 over the weekend. After missing two putts to win, Howell prevailed with a birdie at the second extra hole to finally win his third tour title. Afterwards, Howell was also understandably emotional to get the monkey off his back. Our top ranked player, Webb Simpson, finished in third and in an event that's usually hard to predict, we had eight of the top fifteen plus ties (8/22) overall.

2018 - Week 45 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions/statistics for this week, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai (European PGA Tour) and The RSM Classic (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the last event of the season (but not the year!) on the European PGA Tour and the last event of the year (but not the season!) on the US Tour! There is a strong field of tour regulars for the European season finale, including Masters champion Patrick Reed and defending champion Jon Rahm. While six of the top twenty in the world are teeing it up in Dubai, the field is more modest in Georgia. World number twenty Webb Simpson headlines the field and it will be the last chance before January for the lesser lights to put some FedEx Cup points on the board.

2018 - Week 44 Winners

Lee Westwood (ranked 12th by Golf Predictor) won the Nedbank Golf Challenge on the European PGA Tour. The 45 year old Englishman won his twenty fourth tour title in a final day battle with home favourite Louis Oosthuizen and long-time leader Sergio Garcia. Despite trailing Garcia overnight by three shots, Westwood shot a brilliant closing 64 (-8) on the tough Sun City layout to take the title by three shots. A delighted Westwood was emotional afterwards, having ended a barren spell of four years. Our top ranked golfer, Rory McIlroy, never really fired and finished in tied 21st. Overall, we had fourteen of the top sixteen plus ties (14/26*) in total.

Matt Kuchar (ranked 12th by Golf Predictor) won the Mayakoba Golf Classic on the US PGA Tour. The 40 year old American also ended a four year barren spell with victory in Mexico. Despite having  a four shot cushion overnight, Kuchar needed a two putt par from distance on the last to win by a single shot over Danny Lee. Our top ranked golfer, Rickie Fowler, finished in tied 16th and we had twelve of the top twenty one plus ties (12/25).

*Withdrawals/non-starts promoted Pavan into the top 26 of the GP rankings.

2018 - Week 44 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Nedbank Golf Challenge (European PGA Tour) and the Mayakoba Golf Classic (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. Rory McIlroy will be hoping to reclaim a place in the world's top five with a victory in South Africa. Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler will be hoping to build on his promising display last week in Mexico, where Jordan Spieth will also be trying to find some form.

Sunday, 4 November 2018

2018 - Week 43 Winners

Justin Rose (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the Turkish Airlines Open on the European PGA Tour. The 38 year old Englishman successfully defended a title for the first time with a play-off victory in Turkey. Rose came from three shots back to overtake overnight leader Hao-Tong Li early on the back nine. However, two closing bogeys by the Englishman saw the duo finish level after seventy two holes. After hitting a great tee shot and approach shot, unfortunately Li handed Rose the title when he missed a tiddler for par on the first extra hole. Rose was our top ranked player and returned to world number one with his win. Overall, we had eleven of the top eighteen plus ties (11/22).

Bryson DeChambeau (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on the US PGA Tour. The 25 year old American won his fourth title of the year (and first of the new season) by a single shot from defending champion Patrick Cantlay. DeChambeau surged clear late on the back nine with an eagle on the sixteenth, but when Cantlay birdied the last, he only had the minimum advantage up the last. However, DeChambeau kept his cool and tapped in for the winning par. Our top ranked player, Rickie Fowler, finished tied 4th and we had nine of the top fifteen plus ties (9/22).

2018 - Week 43 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Turkish Airlines Open (European PGA Tour) and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. The European Tour heads back to Turkey for the first of the final three events of the Rolex Series. Justin Rose is once again headlining the field and will be hoping no doubt to reclaim the number one spot in the world rankings with a win. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas event on the US PGA Tour has a few big names competing in it this year, with six of the top twenty three in the world teeing it up at TPC Summerlin with the lesser lights and Web.com graduates.

2018 - Week 42 Winners

Xander Schauffele (ranked 20th by Golf Predictor) won the WGC - HSBC Champions on the European/US PGA Tour. The 25 year old American won his first WGC title in a play-off in Shanghai. On a difficult blustery final day, Schauffele shot the lowest round, a 68 (-4), to catch overnight leader Tony Finau after 72 holes. The younger American then played the par five eighteenth in exemplary fashion, with his tap in birdie good enough after Finau left his putt to half criminally short. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, was one of several big names not to perform well and finished in tied 30th. Despite that, we had a very respectable fourteen of the top twenty one in total.

Cameron Champ (ranked 52nd by Golf Predictor) won the Sanderson Farms Championship on the US PGA Tour. The aptly named 23 year old American won his maiden tour title with an impressive finish on Sunday. Despite leading by four shots overnight, Champ was caught by Corey Conners after an ordinary start to his final round. However, the long hitting rookie collected himself and hit five birdies in his last six holes to  restore his advantage and win in only his ninth start on tour. Our top ranked player, Dylan Frittelli, finished in tied 54th and we had only five of the top fourteen plus ties (5/18) in an event that is traditionally hard to call.

2018 - Week 42 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the WGC - HSBC Champions (European/US PGA Tour) and the Sanderson Farms Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. There is a strong field again this year for the last WGC of the season. While twelve of the top twenty in the world will be teeing it up in Shanghai, a second string line up will be battling it out in Mississippi. There are only three of the world's top one hundred playing in the event, so there is a good chance of a surprise winner!

2018 - Week 41 Winners

Host Sergio Garcia (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the Andalucia Valderrama Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation on the European PGA Tour. The 38 year old Spaniard successfully defended his title (again!) with another impressive display at Valderrama. Garcia didn't let the frequent weather delays unnerve him and he won comfortably on Monday after the tournament was cut to fifty four holes. Garcia was our top ranked player and we had only seven of the top sixteen plus ties (7/21) in the weather plagued event.

Brooks Koepka (ranked 2nd by Golf Predictor) won The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges on the US PGA Tour. The 28 year old American continued his great year by winning a regular tour title to go with his two majors in 2018. Although Koepka won by four shots in the end, he was pushed all the way by Gary Woodland, who finished strongly with a 63 (-9) for second place. However, a chip in on sixteen by Koepka, a bogey on seventeen by Woodland and a closing eagle by the champion restored his overnight advantage. That win was good enough to make Koepka the latest golfer to take over the world number one position. Our top ranked player, Justin Thomas, finished in tied 36th and we had twelve of the top eighteen plus ties (12/22) in the restricted field event.

2018 - Week 41 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Andalucia Valderrama Masters hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation (European PGA Tour) and The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges (US PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. The PGA Tour returns to Jeju Island in South Korea on the second leg of its Asia swing, with Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka headlining the field. Meanwhile, on the European Tour, host Sergio Garcia is teeing it up with not much else by way of top talent against him.

Sunday, 14 October 2018

2018 - Week 40 Winners

Eddie Pepperell (ranked 8th by Golf Predictor) won the Sky Sports British Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 27 year old Englishman led from start to finish to secure his second tour title at Walton Heath. Pepperell played well in the difficult conditions and could even afford to drop a couple of shots coming in and still win by two strokes. Our top ranked player, host Justin Rose, finished in tied 8th and we had eleven of the top sixteen plus ties (11/21).

Marc Leishman (ranked 4th by Golf Predictor) won the CIMB Classic on the US PGA Tour. The 34 year old Australian won his fourth tour title with an impressive finish in Malaysia. Tied for the lead overnight, Leishman started strongly and wasn't put under any pressure down the stretch. That allowed him to coast home and a closing birdie meant he won by five shots in the end. Our top ranked player, Justin Thomas, finished strongly for tied 5th and we had eleven of the top nineteen plus ties (11/21).

2018 - Week 40 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the CIMB Classic (US PGA Tour) and the Sky Sports British Masters (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. Like the past few years, the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club is hosting the US Tour. There aren't many big names in the Malaysian event this year, but at least Justin Thomas is once again in the field. Justin Rose has managed to attract some big European names to the event in England, where the tournament has moved to yet another new course and another new host. This doesn't make the task of forecasting it any easier!

2018 - Week 39 Winners

Lucas Bjerregaard (ranked 35th by Golf Predictor) won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European PGA Tour. The 27 year old won his second tour title in windy Scotland by a single shot from Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood. After a rare shotgun start on Sunday to avoid strong winds, the big hitting Dane overtook double defending champion Hatton, who faltered unexpectedly on his closing nine, to win at the home of golf. Our top ranked player, Brooks Koepka, despite the horror of hitting that fan at the Ryder Cup last week, finished in tied 7th. Overall, we only had six of the top twenty plus ties (6/23) in the tough conditions.

Kevin Tway (ranked 23rd by Golf Predictor) won the Safeway Open on the US PGA Tour. The 30 year old American won his maiden tour title in California, joining his father Bob as a PGA Tour winner! In the difficult conditions on Sunday, Tway finished strongly with two closing birdies in regulation and three birdies in the play-off to take the title. Despite leading by five shots after eleven holes on Sunday, Brandt Snedeker's game deserted him, opening the door for the field. That allowed Tway and Ryan Moore to catch the faltering leader, who was the first man eliminated from the play-off. Our top ranked player, Patrick Cantlay, finished in tied 17th and we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/24).

2018 - Week 39 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (European PGA Tour) and the Safeway Open (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the first event of the new 2018/19 US PGA Tour season, but after the excitement of the Ryder Cup last week, there aren't many big guns trying to get their new campaigns off to a flying start. There are a few US and European Ryder Cup stars (and vice-captains!) teeing it up on the three courses in Scotland, while Phil Mickelson is the only one playing in California. It looks like golfers and celebrities alike have the usual difficult weather conditions for the European event!

Sunday, 23 September 2018

2018 - Week 38 Winners

Tom Lewis (ranked 34th by Golf Predictor) won the Portugal Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 27 year old Englishman won his second tour title and second time in this event in Vilamoura. After a modest opening round of 72 (+1), Lewis came through the field helped by a 61 on Saturday to build on his recent Challenge Tour victory and take the title. That 61 by Lewis was two shots higher than the best score of the week - an historic 59 by Oliver Fisher on Friday! The leaders got jittery down the stretch, but a hero par after finding water on seventeen by Lewis and a closing double by nearest challenger Lucas Herbert meant the Englishman won by three shots. Our top ranked player, Sergio Garcia, finished in tied 7th, showing some welcome good form ahead of the Ryder Cup. Overall, we had eleven of the top twenty plus ties (11/26) in the Algarve.

Tiger Woods (ranked 18th by Golf Predictor) won the Tour Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 42 year old American superstar capped a tremendous comeback by taking the prestigious title at East Lake. Leading by three overnight, his nearest challengers Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose made it easy on Woods to land his eightieth title. Both played incredibly poorly on Sunday, which allowed Tiger to coast to the win. Rose had the consolation of pipping Tiger for the $10 million FedEx Cup jackpot with a birdie on the final hole. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished strongly for 3rd place and we had fifteen of the top nineteen in the restricted field event.

2018 - Week 38 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions for this week, the Tour Championship (US PGA Tour) and the Portugal Masters (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. Only the top thirty in the FedEx Cup rankings are playing in the US season finale this week and it's the usual cream of the crop, with some exceptions e.g. Jordan Spieth. However, the Texan's unexpected absence is balanced by the reappearance of Tiger Woods at East Lake. The field in Portugal is more modest, but the out of form Sergio Garcia will hope playing in the Algarve will revive his fortunes ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Sunday, 16 September 2018

2018 - Week 37 Winners

Ashun Wu (ranked 58th by Golf Predictor) won the KLM Open on the European PGA Tour. The 33 year old Chinese golfer won his third tour title in a final day battle with Chris Wood. After leading for the opening two days, Wu surrendered the lead after the third round to the Englishman. Despite regaining the upper hand briefly early on Sunday, Wu found himself chasing most of the day and was let back into it when Wood double bogeyed the twelfth. Wu hung in with some gutsy par saves and a tremendous approach on the last which set up what was to be the winning birdie. Despite finding the final green in two, Wood couldn't match him and fell short by a single shot. That made both Wu and me very happy, as I had backed/tipped him at 100/1! Our top ranked player, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, disappointingly missed the cut, but we had fourteen of the top twenty four plus ties (14/27).

There was no event on the US PGA Tour this week.

Monday, 10 September 2018

2018 - Week 36 Winners

Matthew Fitzpatrick (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won the Omega European Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 24 year old Englishman defended his title and won his fifth tour title by defeating Lucas Bjerregaard in a play-off. Despite not playing his best on Sunday, Fitzpatrick hung in and needed a birdie in his last few holes to catch the Dane. Fitzpatrick played the final hole perfectly to tie Bjerregaard and repeated the feat to take the title in the scenic Swiss mountains. Fitzpatrick was our top ranked player and in an event where many bigger names failed to perform, we had only six of the top sixteen plus ties (6/22).

Keegan Bradley (ranked 39th by Golf Predictor) won the third event of the FedEx Cup play-offs, the BMW Championship. The 32 year old American won his fourth tour title with an play-off victory over Justin Rose. Despite playing the last hole poorly in regulation, Bradley was saved by the grandstand and then Rose lipping out for par on the same hole after him. Rose then failed to get down in two on the first extra hole to hand the title to Bradley. At least Rose could console himself with becoming world number one for the first time. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished in tied 24th and we had fourteen of the top nineteen plus ties (14/23).

2018 - Week 37 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions/stats for this week, the KLM Open (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. There are a few European players in the top fifty in the world rankings teeing it up in the Netherlands this week. There is no event on the US PGA Tour this week as it is the rest week in the FedEx Cup play-offs.

Field Comparison Spider Charts Added to Golf Predictor

Field Comparison for the Dell Technologies Championship with Season Average Selected and Dustin Johnson hovered over.

Similar to the field comparison charts added to the site some time ago, I am pleased to announce nine new field comparison spider/radar/star charts to Golf Predictor. These new charts allow you to see at a glance which golfers have the best values in the historical metric of your choosing. In comparison to the existing field comparison charts referred to above, these new charts are star/radar charts and compare the entire field for one metric.

The complete list of new charts is as follows:
  1. Spider chart of season average for the field.
  2. Spider chart of course average for the field.
  3. Spider chart of tournament average for the field.
  4. Spider chart of Tournament average for the field.
  5. Spider chart of last five average for the field.
  6. Spider chart of  last twelve similar events average for the field.
  7. Spider chart of  same region average for the field.
  8. Spider chart of similar field strength average for the field.
  9. Spider chart of similar weather average for the field.
Most of these charts are available in two locations: all nine together on the Rankings page (Predictions menu) and individually on each of the first seven pages in the Form menu (Same Course, Same Tournament, Season, Last 5 Events, Similar Tournaments, Same Region and Similar Field Strength). The chart available on the main Rankings page (Predictions menu) has a drop down box allowing you to pick a different metric. However, when the same individual chart is available from a page in the Form menu, this drop down box is not necessary. All these pages have a new "Compare Field (Spider)" chart link which displays a chart similar to the screenshot above. The Rankings page contains a link to the chart shown above, which shows the average finish in the current GP Season (calendar year) for the field ahead of the 2018 Dell Technologies Championship.

This brings the total number of charts on Golf Predictor up to 575. Some notes on these new charts:
  1. The nearer the points are to the centre of the chart, the better (the lower the average value is).
  2. Hovering over a point on the chart will show the golfer's name, his value in the metric, the number of events played and his GP Rank, as shown above for Dustin Johnson.
  3. The chart is ordered by GP Rank, with the top ranked golfer (DJ in the chart above) in the twelve o'clock position. As can be seen above, this means the values will tend to be lower in the upper right quadrant (higher ranked golfers) and higher in the upper left quadrant (lower ranked golfers).
  4. Due to the large number of golfers typically shown on these new charts is large, it is not possible to show the labels for each golfer in the field for legibility reasons. Therefore, the labels are shown for every n golfers, where n depends on the number of golfers displayed. This value varied from every golfer to every sixth golfer. For example, the chart above with 98 golfers shows the label for every fourth golfer.
  5. Also for legibility purposes, golfer names are truncated if their surname is too long. This is shown above for B(ryson) DeChambeau.
  6. Golfers with no value for the metric are excluded from the chart and are listed underneath instead. These zero values are also excluded from the average field value shown.
  7. You may have to reload a page (press F5 on Windows) to see the new chart links.
I trust you will find these nine new charts useful for quickly spotting good picks for upcoming tournaments. Just another way to make Golf Predictor even better!

2018 - Week 36 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions/stats for this week, the BMW Championship (US PGA Tour) and the Omega European Masters (European PGA Tour) are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the third leg of the FedEx Cup play-offs in the US this week and the pressure will be on to qualify for the lucrative Tour Championship in two weeks time. As usual, the bigger names are still in FedEx Cup contention in America, but there still are a couple of players in the top fifty in the world rankings teeing it up on the popular track in the Swiss Alps this week.

2018 - Week 35 Winners

Matt Wallace (ranked 7th by Golf Predictor) won the Made in Denmark on the European PGA Tour. The 28 year old Englishman won his fourth tour title in an all English four man play-off against Lee Westwood, Jonathan Thomson & Steven Brown. Wallace finished very strongly with five birdies in his last six holes to post -19. This was equalled by the other trio, with Lee Westwood having let a two shot lead around the turn slip. Wallace then proceeded to leave his approach on both extra holes about five feet away to vanquish his three opponents with birdies and take the title. Our top ranked player, Thorbjorn Olesen, finished in tied 20th and was delighted to sow up the last qualifying spot on the Ryder Cup team. Overall, we had fourteen of the top twenty plus ties (14/26).

Bryson DeChambeau (ranked 16th by Golf Predictor) won the Dell Technologies Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 24 year old American won his third title of the season with an impressive two shot win over Justin Rose. DeChambeau broke out of a crowded leaderboard early on Sunday and was never really threatened on the back nine. That allowed him to win his second FedEx Cup event in a row reasonably comfortably in the end and cement his place on the US Ryder Cup team. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished strongly in tied 7th and we had eight of the top twelve plus ties (8/19).

2018 - Week 35 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Made in Denmark (European PGA Tour) and Dell Technologies Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. As usual, there is a strong field in Boston for the second play-off event, with eighteen of the top twenty in the world rankings jockeying for position in the FedEx Cup. That doesn't leave much top talent for the European Tour event, but Thorbjorn Olesen is headlining the field in his homeland as he looks to force his way into the Ryder Cup team.

2018 - Week 34 Winners

Andrea Pavan (ranked 29th by Golf Predictor) won the D+D REAL Czech Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 29 year old Italian won his first tour title in an exciting final day battle with veteran Padraig Harrington. Trailing Harrington by two shots after thirteen holes, Pavan finished strongly to overhaul the Irishman and win by two shots in the end. Harrington will rue a missed short par putt on the fifteenth that helped Pavan's cause at a crucial time. Our top ranked player, Thomas Pieters, finished 9th and we had eight of the top eighteen plus ties (8/23) in total.

Bryson DeChambeau (ranked 27th by Golf Predictor) won The Northern Trust on the US PGA Tour. The 24 year old American won his third tour title with an assured performance in New Jersey. Leading by four shots overnight after a brilliant 63 (-8) on Saturday, DeChambeau was never put under pressure on Sunday and coasted to his second win of the season. In doing so, he laid down a marker for a place on the US Ryder Cup team. Our top ranked player, Justin Rose, missed the cut and despite many of the stellar field not performing, we had nine of the top twenty plus ties (9/24) in total.

2018 - Week 34 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the D+D REAL Czech Masters (European PGA Tour) and The Northern Trust (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the first week of the lucrative FedEx Cup play-offs on the US PGA Tour and once again, there is an impressive line up in New Jersey. Rory, Rickie (injured) and Sergio (didn't qualify) are the only top thirty players in the world not teeing it up at Ridgewood Country Club. Meanwhile, the field in the Czech Republic is not quite as impressive, with only three members of the top hundred in the world playing in Prague.

2018 - Week 33 Winners

Paul Waring (ranked 44th by Golf Predictor) won the Nordea Masters on the European PGA Tour. The 33 year old Englishman captured his first tour title with a play-off victory over Thomas Aiken in Sweden. The duo shared a three shot lead overnight and couldn't be separated over the final eighteen holes. After Aiken found the water on the first extra hole, the injury plagued Waring was able to finally land his first victory with a par. Our top ranked player, the in-form Thorbjorn Olesen, finished in 4th and we had inly five of the top seventeen plus ties (5/20) in this weak fielded event

Brandt Snedeker (ranked 11th by Golf Predictor) won the Wyndham Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 37 year old American put some recent poor form behind him with a wire to wire victory at Sedgefield Country Club. Snedeker opened up with a fantastic 59 on Thursday and although he was caught on Sunday by C.T.  Pan, a three shot swing on the final hole saw the American safely home.
Our top ranked player, Webb Simpson, finished very strongly for tied 2nd and in an event where many of the bigger names failed to perform, we had only six of the top eleven plus ties (6/19) in total.

2018 - Week 33 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the Nordea Masters (European PGA Tour) and the Wyndham Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. There aren't many big names competing in America this week, with the Wyndham Championship coming directly after the last major of the season. However, there are a few biggish names and a host of middle tier guys trying to improve/maintain their place in the FedEx Cup standings ahead of the upcoming play-offs. Meanwhile, the field in Sweden is even weaker, with the in-form Dane Thorbjorn Olesen headlining the event.

2018 - Week 32 Winner

Brooks Koepka (ranked 6th by Golf Predictor) won the US PGA Championship on the European/US PGA Tour. The 28 year old American secured his third major title and second of the season with an impressive performance at Bellerive. On an exciting final day's play with a stacked leaderboard that included the resurgent Tiger Woods, Koepka kept his cool to pull away on the back nine to win by two over a resurgent Adam Scott and the aforementioned Woods. Our top ranked player, Justin Rose, finished in tied 19th and although many top names failed to perform, we had eleven of the top nineteen plus ties (11/26*).

*Oosthuizen didn't play, promoting Hatton to the top 26 of the GP Rankings.

2018 - Week 32 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the US PGA Championship (European/US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. It's the final major of the season and the PGA Championship heads to Bellerive Country Club for the first time since 1992. It's the last chance for eight months for a golfer to land one of those prestigious titles, so competition is bound to be fierce!

New Golf Predictor Logo

New Golf Predictor Logo

I am happy to announce a new logo for Golf Predictor. After ten years of using the amateurish one I designed myself, I finally got around to getting one professionally done. After running a brief on-line contest, I chose the above logo as the winner. I liked this one for its simplicity, attractiveness and because it conveys the same idea as my own original effort. The version above is designed for the green background of the website header, but there are also other versions designed for a lighter background. These may make an appearance in other channels, such as social media profiles.

Some notes on this new logo:
  1. The site template, the iFrame with betting odds and this new logo are now the only things on the site not done by me!
  2. This new logo is vertically stacked and thus has different dimensions than the old logo used on the website. Therefore, it wasn't straightforward to replace the logo. Indeed, the header sections in the public facing site and member area had to be rewritten and tested on various sized screens.
  3. While editing the header section on the public pages, I was able to fix a few minor display issues, particularly on smaller phones.
I hope you like this new logo, which I am am very happy with. Just another way to make Golf Predictor look a little better!

2018 - Week 31 Winners

Justin Thomas (ranked 8th by Golf Predictor) won the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational on the European/US PGA Tour. The 25 year old American won his first WGC title and third title of the season in the tournament's last staging in Ohio. Despite not having his A game on Sunday, Thomas was able to build on his overnight lead after his three nearest challengers all had poor final rounds. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, finished strongly in tied 3th and we had ten of the top seventeen plus ties (10/22) in total.

Andrew Putnam (ranked 11th by Golf Predictor) won the Barracuda Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 29 year old American secured his first tour title with an impressive display in the modified Stableford event. Putnam won in style, with a twenty foot plus birdie putt at the last to win by four points from Chad Campbell. Our top ranked player, Shane Lowry, finished poorly in tied 15th and we had nine of the top fifteen plus ties (9/21) in the second tier event.

Gaganjeet Bhullar (ranked 8th by Golf Predictor) won the Fiji International pres. by Fiji Airways on the European PGA Tour. The 30 year old Indian won his first tour title with a strong finish in the South Pacific. Bhullar was trailing by one with two to play, but chipped in for eagle on seventeen and parred the last to edge out the fast finishing Anthony Quayle. Our top ranked player, Justin harding, finished in tied 25th and we only had eight of the top eighteen plus ties (8/24) in this weak fielded event.

2018 - Week 31 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational (European/US PGA Tour), the Fiji International pres. by Fiji Airways (European PGA Tour) and the Barracuda Championship (US PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. While there aren't many big golfing names teeing it up in either minor event (especially in Fiji!) this week, the WGC makes up for it with a full compliment of the world's top fifty golfers!

2018 - Week 30 Winners

Richard McEvoy (ranked 32nd by Golf Predictor) won the Porsche European Open on the European PGA Tour. The 39 year old Englishman finally won his maiden tour title at the 285th time of asking on a topsy turvy day in Germany. After letting a two shot lead slip early on the back nine on Sunday, McEvoy laid up on the last, but still holed his birdie putt to take the title by a single shot. Our top ranked player, Patrick Reed, finished poorly for tied 9th and we had eight of the top nineteen plus ties (8/21).

Dustin Johnson (ranked 1st by Golf Predictor) won the RBC Canadian Open on the US PGA Tour. The 34 year old American won his third tour title of the season in Canada. After several close calls in what is now almost his adopted homeland, Johnson delighted the home crowd with an imperious display of driving at Glen Abbey. The world number overpowered the course on the weekend to surge clear and win by three shots in the end. Including the winner, in a weather affected event where many of the bigger names failed to perform, we had only five of the top seventeen plus ties (5/21).

2018 - Week 30 Predictions/Statistics Online

The predictions and statistics for this week, the RBC Canadian Open (US PGA Tour) and the Porsche European Open (European PGA Tour), are now available on Golf Predictor. World number one Dustin Johnson and Open Championship runner-up Matt Kuchar are among those who have jetted over from Scotland to tee it up in Canada at their sponor's event. A few big names are also teeing it up at the European Open, where Masters champion Patrick Reed are among those who have been somehow enticed to stay in Europe for another week after the trials of Carnoustie!

2018 - Week 29 Winners

Francesco Molinari (ranked 3rd by Golf Predictor) won The Open Championship on the European/US PGA Tour. The 35 year old Molinari won his first major with a blemish free weekend on the fiendishly difficult Carnoustie links. Despite trailing three players by three shots overnight, Molinari opened with a Faldoesque thirteen straight pars while everyone around him made multiple mistakes. He didn't flinch either when his more famous playing partner Tiger Woods hid the front around the turn. Molinari closed with two birdies in the last five holes, including one at the difficult finishing hole, to win by two strokes in the end. Our top ranked player, Dustin Johnson, surprisingly missed the cut and we had nine of the top seventeen plus ties (9/23) on the testing layout.

Troy Merritt (ranked 16th by Golf Predictor) won the Barbasol Championship on the US PGA Tour. The 32 year old American won his second tour title by a single shot in a shoot out in Kentucky. Although he opened up with 62 (-10), Merritt had to keep his pedal to the metal to edge out Billy Horschel, Tom Lovelady and Richy Werenski at the rain delayed event. Our top ranked player, Chris Kirk, finished in tied 40th and we had eight of the top fifteen plus ties (8/19) in total in this second tier event.
